Where We Will Meet

Meet outside of Balzac's Distillery District coffee shop.

Where The Walk Will End

Meet inside of Mill Street Brewpub (Distillery District).

About This Walk

This photo walk takes us from Toronto’s historic Distillery District down into the Port Lands, where the mouth of the Don River is being rehabilitated. Walkers will see the many changes which have taken place, such as the re-routing of mouth of the Don River, roads having been moved or removed, bridges installed, etc. The changes are ongoing, and the exact route will change right up until walk day.

We’ll meet at Balzac’s Distillery District coffee shop at 9:30am, and chat for about thirty minutes before heading out at 10:00am. We’ll return to the Distillery District for lunch at Mill Street Brewpub some time between 12:00pm and 12:30pm.

I have been an active member of the Toronto Photo Walks group since January 2010, and have lead several walks over the years.

We lucked out as far as the weather is concerned.

Less Than Two Weeks Until Our Worldwide Photo Walk …September 25th, 2023

Worldwide Photo Walkers:

We are a little less than two weeks away from our “The Mouth Of The Don River & The Port Lands” Worldwide Photo Walk.

The area we are exploring is in the process of being revitalized. The Don Mouth Naturalization and Port Lands Flood Protection Project is a massive transformation. For anyone interested in learning more about it before the walk, check out the Port Lands 2024 Website . Googling this subject should bring up more resources–maps, videos, essays, etc.

I am recommending that photo walkers bring a variety of lenses (or zoom lenses) for our stroll through the ever-changing Port Lands.

We will be walking under the structure of one of the new Cherry Street bridges–which is ideal for wide angle shots. New views of the Toronto skyline from this bridge and from Polson Pier (should we decide to include this), would also benefit from normal to a wide angle lenses. For those areas which may unaccessible, telephoto lenses will help with capturing more distant scenes and landmarks.

There are no plans at this time for what will happen should the weather be rainy. Be prepared to wear weather appropriate footwear and jackets, and bring an umbrella. If there are any changes to scheduling, you will be notified.

Looking forward to October 7th.

  1. Worldwide Photo Walkers:
We are four weeks away from the “The Mouth Of The Don River & The Port Lands” photo walk.
We will be exploring the changes in the area as work continues.
I am hoping that there will be access to areas which are currently closed.
You can expect a few more messages here before October 7th.

  2. Hi Jeff. Looking forward to this walk through the Distillery district. Will be a good day.

  3. Hi Jeff. I am so sorry but I can’t participate in the walk tomorrow. I have to work. I was really looking forward to it. 🙁 I hope you all have a great day and the weather is great. Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. For those who are unable to participate for one reason or another, check out Toronto Photo Walks. Anyone can join.
We try to have two photo walks in Toronto each month, with the occasional road trip outside of the city.
You can find Toronto Photo Walks on Facebook.

  5. As Jeff mentioned, Toronto PhotoWalks (TOPW) has a regular schedule of first and third Saturdays each month throughout the year, and November will mark our 13th anniversary!
You can find us at https://topw.ca where there are links to join our mailing list (all walks are posted on the website and sent to the list), the Facebook group (walk info but also ad hoc walks), and Flickr (where we post our photos because FB mangles them).
