About This Walk

About the Photowalk

Are you ready to peel back the layers of time? Join us for a unique photowalk exploring the hidden textures and untold stories etched into the buildings and alleys of Galveston’s historic district. The Strand is a frequent photographer’s playground, but not many people deliberately focus on the less-polished side of Galveston’s The Strand Street. The back streets of Galveston have a very rich environment of unusual texture and color. The century-old infrastructures are a fantastic canvas for photographic experimentation and practice.  Early in the morning also presents a study in light and shadow.

“I know what you’re thinking, why are we walking down an ally street where they toss the trash? Believe it or not, the back streets of Galveston have a very rich environment of unusual texture and color. The century-old infrastructures are a fantastic canvas for photographic experimentation and practice.” That’s how Joe described shooting the back streets of The Strand.

Route

We’ll start at the corner of 25th St and The Strand to photograph the sunrise (dawn is at 6:50am and sunrise at 7:15am).  We’ll then proceed down toward 21st, turn right, and then down the alley.

One Response

  1. There are 2 world wide walks in Houston this year. One is downtown at night and one is sunrise on the strand in Galveston. I’ve signed up for the night one and want to sign up for the sunrise one also but only get the option to switch walks. How do I solve that?
