About This Walk

On this photo walk will be exploring Little India and the surrounding Brickfields area in Kuala Lumpur.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION

8.30 am. Meet at Nasi Kandar Original HT Signature (Brickfields) (1A, Jalan Tun Sambanthan 4, Brickfields)(https://maps.app.goo.gl/RWNvqsBxCNTtbmXo6). This is a new Mamak restaurant opposite YMCA Brickfields. Be there earlier, perhaps 8.00 am, if you wish to have breakfast here.

8.45 pm, Briefing of the photo walk and a group photo.

9.00 am. Walk starts. Walk to the Nu Sentral escalator and then to the Colourful Street (sadly, not as nice as before) near KL Sentral monorail station. As we exit, we will arrive back at Nasi Kandar Original HT Signature. Walk along Jalan Padang Belia until you arrive at Sree Veera Hanuman Temple. If you are entering places of worship, please dress suitably. Typically, avoid wearing shorts and sleeveless shirt. There are two other Hindu temples along this street (Jalan Scott).

Head to Jalan Tebing and walk along the River of Life walkway then merge back into Jalan Tebing and arrive close to the Tun Sambanthan MRT station. Head along Jalan Tun Sambanthan 4 and turn left at Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad. Proceed to explore the Chinese Temple and Surau area (Madrasathul Gouthiyyah Surau).

Turn left into Jalan Berhala, passing two Hindu temples. Head on until the end and turn back onto Jalan Behala. Turn in to visit the Seng Hong Temple area (Taoist / Hindu temple).

Get back onto Jalan Berhala and walk to the River of Life walkway until you reach a Hindu shrine. Turn back and walk along Jalan Berhala until you reach Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad. Turn right to explore the church area (Evangelical Lutheran Church) and back track and pass by the Krija Babaji Ashram.

Walk pass the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, Across the road is the mural along the wall of the SMK La Salle.

Turn left onto Jalan Tun Sambanthan and gather at Kompleks Tun Sambanthan for some drinks at the food court. We should arrive here around 10.30 am to 11.00 am. Beside this Kompleks there is the Orthodox Syrian Cathedral of St. Mary the Theotokos.

Back track along Jalan Tun Sambanthan into enter the main street of Little India. Explore the shops and Deepavali bazaar stalls. Along this street take a short detour into a side street beside the red colourful building which ends at a Hindu shrine.

Head to the Arch and elephant-themed Little India Fountain. Explore shops along Jalan Rakyat, turning into a side street with a Hindu shrine. Back track and explore the shops and Deepavali bazaar stalls on the opposite side of the main street of Little India. Enter the Flower Street and reach the Hindu shrine at the back. Walk along the back street, cross the Little India Fountain to reach the “glass house” in front of Sentral Suites. Then walk past the decorated pedestrian bridge and head towards Nu Sentral.

12.30 pm. Arrive at back at the Nu Sentral escalators which you can shoot again since the light coming through will be different from the morning. Head to Quizinn Foodcourt, Level 3 in Nu Sentral. We will gather at the tables beside the entrance to the food court, where we can have lunch.

ADVICE

  1. With so many people joining this photo walk, it will be normal for the group to break up into smaller groups so please use the map and description above to ensure you can follow the correct route. Join the WhatsApp group as stated above to check my Live Location and to keep in touch.
  2. We may be entering places of worship so please dress suitably. Typically, avoid wearing shorts and sleeveless shirt.
  3. The walk is 5.4 km long so wear comfortable walking shoes. And carry minimal photographic equipment. Tripod is not required.
  4. There will hardly be any shady areas for most of the photo walk so do whatever necessary to protect yourself from the heat e.g. apply sunscreen lotion, use an umbrella, wear a hat and sunglasses. And keep yourself hydrated – drinks lots of water.
  5. In case of rain, bring an umbrella or raincoat.
  6. Maintain situational awareness at all times to ensure you and your equipment are safe. Stay with at least another person to keep a watch out for each other.

GETTING THERE BY TRAIN: Arriving by monorail, alight at KL Sentral Monorail station. Arriving by MRT, LRT or Komuter, alight at KL Sentral station and walk through Nu Sentral to get to KL Sentral Monorail station. From there it’s a 4-minute walk along Jalan Tun Sambanthan 4 to get to our starting point (Nasi Kandar Original HT Signature).

PARKING: you can park at Lot F Sentral Parking (https://maps.app.goo.gl/TU3QTVHxPcaa3x4z9), an open air car park across from Menara 1 Sentrum which is beside Nu Sentral. The rate is RM5 per entry on weekends and public holidays. From this car park, cross the street into Jalan Tun Sambanthan 4 to arrive at our starting point (Nasi Kandar Original HT Signature) in about 4 minutes.

For covered car park, park at Nu Sentral (https://www.nusentral.com/about-us/#parking). The rate is RM5 for the first hour and RM3 for every subsequent hour. However, you can enjoy a flat rate of RM5 for weekends and public holidays if you spend RM50 on a single receipt at any retail outlet in Nu Sentral.

Alternatively, park at Kompleks TLK Brickfields (https://maps.app.goo.gl/QFXrETyn7spkSYrE9). The rate is RM3 for the first hour and RM1 for every subsequent hour. It’s a 7-minute walk to our starting point (Nasi Kandar Original HT Signature).

GETTING THERE BY TRAIN: Arriving by monorail, alight at KL Sentral Monorail station. Arriving by MRT, LRT or Komuter, alight at KL Sentral station and walk through Nu Sentral to get to KL Sentral Monorail station. From there it’s a 4-minute walk along Jalan Tun Sambanthan 4 to get to our starting point (Nasi Kandar Original HT Signature).

PARKING: You can park at Lot F Sentral Parking (https://maps.app.goo.gl/TU3QTVHxPcaa3x4z9), an open air car park across from Menara 1 Sentrum which is beside Nu Sentral. The rate is RM5 per entry on weekends and public holidays. From this car park, cross the street into Jalan Tun Sambanthan 4 to arrive at our starting point (Nasi Kandar Original HT Signature) in about 4 minutes.
