About This Walk
Photographers of all ages and levels of experience are invited!
This year’s Photowalk will be at the newly opened Hanson Nature Preserve in French Lake (Geary). If you have not been there yet wait until the day of the walk to take it in. There is a short walking trail along the river; a bird watching tower overlooking a wetland, brook and pond. In addition there we will explore an old growth forest trail with some other interesting stops. The trail has wonderful scenery and should be in full bloom with fall colours for the walk!
Following the walk, participants will be free to explore the Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden nearby. A get together for lunch out will also be planned if there is sufficient interest.
If you are interested, please sign up to register for the walk. There is no entry fee however they asking every participant to make a $1 donation to walk, which goes directly to support of an international charity. By registering you will be on a list for further updates. Also everyone who registers will be eligible to enter the photo contest to win some amazing prizes from industry related sponsors.
Arrangements for carpooling will be made from Fredericton. Please watch for updates from this site. Thank you for your participation!
Final wrap up for this year’s walkOctober 29th, 2025
Hello everyone,
Wow! Well done! I must say that of all the walks held in Canada, ours had the most entries with over 40! Major centres across the country only had a handful of photos submitted so I am quite proud of our group!
Judging has been completed for our walk images. It was a difficult task just to pick one overall as there were many excellent images. It was an impressive display of compositions, techniques and editing. You are a creative group that is for sure highlighting not only skilled photography on the subject but also showing artistic interpretations.
I was able to download all the images and make a shareable album for all of you to view. Attached below is a link. In addition, I will post the link in case it does not go through the walk website and upload just a sampling of the images that were submitted it to the various camera club Facebook pages for everyone to access. If no one has any objections, I am also going to forward a link to Mr Hanson himself. He will be pleased with all the photos I am sure.
All the images will be reviewed by Mr Kelby for the top ten worldwide along with the individual group selections submitted. Good luck to all of you.
Thanks again for making this year’s walk a big success.

Thank You!October 4th, 2025
Thank you to all the participants in today’s walk! It was a genuine pleasure to meet and chat with all of you and I hope that you found the day enjoyable.
You will soon be getting an invitation from the Worldwide Photowalk to submit your best image. I would encourage each of you to do so. Two years ago we had one of our walkers chosen by Mr Kelby himself for the top ten in the world, so you never know. Plus there are some prize giveaways that everyone is eligible for too.
I would also invite you to send your personal thanks and perhaps a photo or two to Mr Hanson himself at the Art Gallery. I know he would be thrilled to receive your images! His email is: hansonartgallery39@gmail.com
Thanks once again for coming out and I hope to see you all again real soon! Keep on shooting.

Last update and reminder for photowalkOctober 3rd, 2025
Hello everyone,
This is just a last minute check in with you. We had about half a dozen people sign up just today and that is great, welcome aboard!
For those who just joined on you may not have received the previous messages from the walk. I just wanted to make sure you log onto the website for all the details for directions, meet up times and possible car pool arrangements to get there. If you have not already, be sure to read all the notes in the updates and discussion sections.
The forecast looks super and it should be a fun outing! See you there.

Photo Walk PreparationSeptember 30th, 2025
Hello everyone,
Hope you are getting your gear ready for Saturday’s outing. I just wanted to make some suggestions for those participating.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with your exposures. Think about trying some things like camera rotation, zooming in and out and multiple exposures. If your camera has any built in filters that you can try be sure to check up on them prior to heading out.
I will also be bringing some special effects filters if you would like to experiment with them. I will have some step rings to fit most lenses.
The main theme is to have fun!

Directions for PhotowalkSeptember 29th, 2025
Hello everyone,
Apologies to everyone as I thought my messages were getting out. I have been posting to the Discussion board assuming that these messages would be sent out to your individual emails. I have found out that this is not the case, so hopefully you will receive the updates now.
It is just less than a week away from our Photowalk! On Friday I was out scouting and enjoyed a wonderful, warm and colourful afternoon on the trail. The foliage is changing very nicely and should be at peak hues next weekend.
For those travelling from Saint John and Oromocto, there is no need to get to Fredericton first.
Coming up Route 7, take the Broad Road exit and follow it to the Branch Road. Take a sharp left then follow the road down to French Lake Road. Follow this all the way down to Merritt Smith Road and turn left just past the white church. Follow this road down and the gallery is on the right side. It is approximately 45 minutes from the start of Route 7 to the gallery so time your departure accordingly.
From Oromocto, follow the Broad Road out to the New Road and turn right. At the end turn right onto French Lake Road and take it to the end. Turn left just past the white church. Follow this road down and the gallery is on the right side. It is about 12 minutes from the intersection of Restigouche and Broad roads.
For those coming from Fredericton, we will organize a car pool leaving from the Boston Pizza parking lot at 9:15 am sharp.
For individual travelers, we will be meeting at the Hanson Art Gallery at 9:45 am and will begin the walk at 10 am. Everyone will enjoy the colourful drive through Geary on the way to the starting point!
Wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water. We will wrap things up around noon time. If there is sufficient interest, we can arrange for a lunch at Jungle Jim’s in Oromocto. It is about 15 minutes from the gallery. I will pole participants after the walk and call in a reservation.
The forecast is calling for a sunny day. You may wish to dress in layers in case it gets really warm. In the event of inclement weather, I will send around a notice to everyone for a reschedule of this event.
I could not upload detailed direction maps but if anyone would like one please contact me directly. Any other questions, feel free to message me.
See you Saturday!

Hello everyone,
Thank you for registering for this year’s Photowalk!
I have lead this walk for the past two years and am looking forward to this year’s event and meeting all of you. Perhaps while we are waiting for the date to arrive, you can introduce yourselves. Say where you are coming from, how you came to register and what level of photography are you at. This walk is all about getting out and taking some pictures no matter what level of experience you have.
The view is a new nature park in the area. I have scouted it out and spoke with Mr Hanson himself. He is very excited about welcoming everyone.
When we get closer to the date, I will have specific instructions on how we will rendezvous and get to the site. For those of you coming from the Saint John and Oromocto areas you won’t have to come to Fredericton and then backtrack. I will relay separate time and directions to meet up. Those in the Fredericton area, we will arrange a car pool which will be leaving from the uptown area.
I am hoping to finish up around noon time. Arrangements for a group lunch at Jungle Jim’s in Oromocto will be made if there is sufficient interest. I will poll participates and make a reservation once we get closer to the date.
Finally, if you would like to get a commemorative t-shirt they can be ordered from this site. I did order one from the US. It came very quickly in about a week and tariff free! Proceeds from these sales again go to the charitable
cause.
If you have any questions, please feel free to post them here.
