About This Walk

Let’s go! Wander downtown Knoxville; Market Square and surrounding area at twilight. Sunset will be 7:15 pm – so we can capture golden hour and night light photography.
You don’t need to bring tripods or flash – but you can, if you want to carry those around walking! Off camera continuous light accessories or even small flashlights can add a little light to fill in shadows. There will be some light from doorways, stores and streetlights to add interesting effects on your photos! The night time lights around Market Square and Old City are beautiful and fun to photograph.
We’ll start off at Cruze Farm Ice Cream’s back room, on Gay Street at 6:00 pm; to meet up and start walking by 6:15. I confirmed with Cruze Farm!  They don’t take RSVP’s and can’t hold tables for us but said they usually aren’t that busy at that time. The Worldwide Photowalk is designed for two hours, but I extended the end time until 9:00 pm, in case someone gets there late.
I plan to make sure everyone has someone to walk around with. It’s my experience that folks tend to break off from a large group. Some more energetic folks may walk as far as Old City, but those less agile can stay right in Market Square or on Gay Street.
We’ll meet back at Cruze’s by 8:00pm to decide how many folks would like to grab food & drinks – and decide where. I’ll have some options after I call ahead. This is a fun part of the Photowalk to reconnect as a group and compare images on our phones or cameras.
In my opinion, anyone with anything that takes pictures is a photographer – including phone cameras! So bring your spouse, kid, neighbor,  or friend for an evening walk and to be your “models” for posed photos. (There may be models coming there for us, fingers crossed)
Check back on the page often as time gets closer. We can post questions or tips in the Discussions tab on this page.  Please EMAIL me after you register, so I can be sure you are updated with any meeting place or time changes. I am also available for any questions at annbarber40@hotmail.com – check your junk mail in about 2 weeks if you don’t get my email.
Let’s go!
By 10/17/25, please choose your favorite photo to send to the Worldwide Photowalk contest – will be here on this page after the walk. You don’t HAVE to enter, but why not – someone will win, why not you? Prizes will be posted on the webpage later too. There are different categories, so don’t forget to use your phone camera!

Getting Ready for our WalkSeptember 30th, 2025

Hello fellow photowalkers ~ SO excited our photowalk is almost here!

Here’s a reminder to all walkers thru the official Worldwide Photowalk site – and to some Facebook followers too on the invite page. (In case you get two messages 😊)

Don’t forget you can use cameras, phones or anything that takes pictures. Invite your better half or friends that might enjoy a stroll, and not mind if you stop every so often, lol. We want them to take pictures too – again phone cameras are fair game.

We will start and end up back at Cruze Farm Ice Cream on Gay Street. They have a back room with tables & chairs for us to gather and compare notes afterwards. Cruze Farm would love to have some pictures of their well-decorated store –please be careful not to interfere with customers. They will likely not mind if we bought ice cream too.

There will be a handout sheet with photo challenge “things to find,” and how to enter the Worldwide photo contests afterwards. I will link a Flickr page to share photos, as well as our Facebook WWPW page.

After the walk, we can decide if some would like to grab dinner or drinks at a nearby restaurant. Not likely that I can make reservations beforehand. I’ll call a few restaurants this week to see if they could handle a small or even large group, if everyone wants to go.

So far there are 10 folks registered through the Knoxville Worldwide Photowalk page, plus 7 marked as “going” on the Facebook page I shared online. There are a lot more identifying as “interested” (24) … but not committed as coming – do we may be a large group. I get it, sometimes it’s hard to say for sure you can be there until the last moment. About 4-5 more have said they will be there too & didn’t register either place.

It might not be possible for all of us to stay together as a group, we could try. My goal is to ensure that everyone will have company, if or when we do get separated.

I plan to just stay around Market Square & Gay Street. Those that get around faster or with more energy could continue on to Old City, which also has great architecture and photo spots.

It should get dark as we walk, so we can experiment with available light for night images. You don’t have to bring tripods or flash units – unless you want to. I like using flashlights or small portable battery lights.

My advice for street photography with strangers is to be respectful. I am not shy about asking if it’s ok, lots of times they will even pose for you! I carry my contact info on business cards, and have been asked to email portraits. Of course if they object or say no, thank them anyway and move on.

If you have any questions before or after the walk, I’m available by email or phone. I do have classes or meetings some nights and turn off my phone, please leave a message or text, will get back to you. Include “WWPW” in email subject – also if texting list WWPW + your name.

Can’t wait to see you Saturday and especially your images later!

  1. If we are able to meet at Cruze Farm Ice Cream – Don’t forget to buy some ice cream! It’s great, and yet another place or thing to photograph ….

  2. Yay! Cruze Farm says we are welcome to start and end there! They can’t RSVP to hold tables for us but I plan to get there early.
    Registration should open soon!
