Getting Ready for our WalkSeptember 30th, 2025
Hello fellow photowalkers ~ SO excited our photowalk is almost here!
Here’s a reminder to all walkers thru the official Worldwide Photowalk site – and to some Facebook followers too on the invite page. (In case you get two messages 😊)
Don’t forget you can use cameras, phones or anything that takes pictures. Invite your better half or friends that might enjoy a stroll, and not mind if you stop every so often, lol. We want them to take pictures too – again phone cameras are fair game.
We will start and end up back at Cruze Farm Ice Cream on Gay Street. They have a back room with tables & chairs for us to gather and compare notes afterwards. Cruze Farm would love to have some pictures of their well-decorated store –please be careful not to interfere with customers. They will likely not mind if we bought ice cream too.
There will be a handout sheet with photo challenge “things to find,” and how to enter the Worldwide photo contests afterwards. I will link a Flickr page to share photos, as well as our Facebook WWPW page.
After the walk, we can decide if some would like to grab dinner or drinks at a nearby restaurant. Not likely that I can make reservations beforehand. I’ll call a few restaurants this week to see if they could handle a small or even large group, if everyone wants to go.
So far there are 10 folks registered through the Knoxville Worldwide Photowalk page, plus 7 marked as “going” on the Facebook page I shared online. There are a lot more identifying as “interested” (24) … but not committed as coming – do we may be a large group. I get it, sometimes it’s hard to say for sure you can be there until the last moment. About 4-5 more have said they will be there too & didn’t register either place.
It might not be possible for all of us to stay together as a group, we could try. My goal is to ensure that everyone will have company, if or when we do get separated.
I plan to just stay around Market Square & Gay Street. Those that get around faster or with more energy could continue on to Old City, which also has great architecture and photo spots.
It should get dark as we walk, so we can experiment with available light for night images. You don’t have to bring tripods or flash units – unless you want to. I like using flashlights or small portable battery lights.
My advice for street photography with strangers is to be respectful. I am not shy about asking if it’s ok, lots of times they will even pose for you! I carry my contact info on business cards, and have been asked to email portraits. Of course if they object or say no, thank them anyway and move on.
If you have any questions before or after the walk, I’m available by email or phone. I do have classes or meetings some nights and turn off my phone, please leave a message or text, will get back to you. Include “WWPW” in email subject – also if texting list WWPW + your name.
Can’t wait to see you Saturday and especially your images later!
