About This Walk
We will begin at the park area at 444 W Lake Street. The park is accessible from Lake Street on the west side of the Chicago River. If you get a little lost, ask the staff at 444 W Lake where to find the Calatrava Sculpture.
We’ll walk east on Lake to the Chicago Riverwalk and stroll down the Chicago river. This area is great for street photography, architectural photography, and to capture the energy and excitement that comes with being on the main branch of the Chicago River.
We’ll exit the riverwalk at Michigan Avenue and walk south to Ida B Wells and turn east toward Buckingham Fountain. We should arrive at or near sunset.
A tripod may be cumbersome to carry all day, but if you have a small tripod or platypod, this would be ideal for long exposures and for sunset.
I’ll be there waiting for the group to arrive. I’m Dave and some of my work can be found at @sceneitphotography.landscape on Instagram. I’m a Chicago based photographer with a passion for getting out and shooting landscapes, air shows, wildlife, architecture, and whatever happens to catch my eye. This walk will be geared toward ALL levels of photography. It will be an excellent vehicle to make photography friends, get a few steps in, and have some fun. You are welcome whether you shoot with high end gear or a cell phone. Don’t forget to invite friends…
Meeting Spot at 4:30October 4th, 2025
Good afternoon everyone…
We’re meeting at 4:30 at 444 W Lake Street. On Lake, at the side of the building, there’s a staircase to get up to the grassy park area between the Chicago River and the building at 444 W Lake. There’s the now famous, bright red Calatrava sculpture. Look for us in this area. I’ll be wearing a fairly loud, plaid blue shirt and blue shorts. If you are going to be late, feel free to call or text 312-446-4144 and I’ll help you navigate how to catch up with the group.
Excited to have a relaxing, fun walk. This event is geared toward all levels of photography. Whether you take photos for fun, it’s a hobby, or you simply enjoy capturing moments on your phone, all are encouraged to join. If you have any specific questions, please let me know and I will do my best to find the answer for you.
