Where We Will Meet
Outside El Minuto Cafe
Where The Walk Will End
Mission San Xavier
About This Walk
The first part of the walk will take place in the Barrio Viejo area. This is a historic neighborhood of Tucson with many restored homes and some businesses full of color and character. This area is walkable. My preferred method is to take my car with a few other participants to a location where we will then walk a small “target rich” area and repeat. Then we will meet up again at 4:30 pm at the cafe, drive to Mission San Xavier, with a possible stop at In and Out Burger (1100 W Irvington Rd, Tucson, AZ 85714) for a cool drink. This will give us time to photograph inside and outside of the mission prior to sunset. There is a hill east of the mission that gives the perfect vantage point for sunset photos including the Mission. With luck we will have a spectacular sunset that I have personally scheduled at 6:04 pm.
Walkers or all skill levels, equipment choices and ages are welcome. This walk can be accomplished with a minimal of actual walking if that suits your needs.
Even though the walk will take place in the fall, this is still southern Arizona. Bring water and sun protection.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or special needs.
I have been a walk leader for a couple of these walks in the past and a participant in several others. I have been a photographer since the 1960’s. You can see some of my work at the DangerousBobPhotography.com website. Some of the photos will be in the areas that we will be visiting in October. Hope you can join us.

Last Minute UpdateOctober 3rd, 2025
I went to the Mission today (Friday). There are more activities taking place on Saturday than I expected.
There will be a Mass at 5PM. This means that to best accomplish our photowalk without disturbing this active church will need to be out of the church prior to 5PM.
We will need to move up our timings.
Instead of gathering at El Minuto Cafe, 345 S. Main Ave. The corner of S. Main & W. Cushing St. at 3PM. let’s move that up to 2:45PM. That way we can be walking at 3.
Then we need to leave Barrio Viejo no later than 4PM. Proceeding directly to Mission San Xavier to arrive prior to 4:30. This will give us some time to photograph the Mission interior quickly, handheld and without flash. Moving to exteriors of the mission so as not to disturb the services starting at 5PM.
With sunset at 6:04 PM we will need to find our place to stand around 5:30.
After sunset we can move to In and Out Burger (1100 W Irvington Rd, Tucson, AZ 85714) for a drink, perhaps a bite and some photographic community.
Please arrive early at the start point for this photo opportunity.

Further DetailsSeptember 27th, 2025
Well, the photowalk will be here very, very soon. Hope that you are looking forward to it as much as I am. Also, ready to greet my friends from former Photowalks and make new friends during this walk.
We will meet up at El Minuto Cafe, 345 S, Main Ave. The corner of S. Main & W. Cushing St. Please be there at 3PM so we can gather and meet our fellow walkers.
This area is very quiet, but it does have some auto traffic. Therefore, please don’t walk alone. When our photographic juices are flowing we may not think to look left and right before crossing the street. Please travel in groups of two or more and be your brother’s keeper. Let’s all be safe! Speaking of safe, here in southern Arizona it is important to stay hydrated. Bring water and sun protection with you. After enjoying this quaint Barrio for about an hour we will rally once again near El Minuto then head toward Mission San Xavier. I plan to stop at In and Out Burger, 1100 W Irvington Rd, Tucson, AZ 85714 for a cool drink and a bathroom break. Maybe even a little “pixel peeping.”
When we are on the road again, we will continue south to Mission San Xavier off of I-19. This mission is very photogenic and with luck we will have a great sunset with which to frame the mission at about 6PM.
If you use your iPhone to help you navigate, I have created a “Guide” for Maps.app with a listing for each of our stops. This was my first effort at making a “Guide” and it is very rudimentary. If you would like a copy for your iPhone, let me know and I will send it to you.
If you have any questions or need any help, let me know.

I want everyone to have a good time, create great photographs, make new friends and most importantly be safe.
It would be nice to promote car pooling for this event. I live in Vail, the far south east portion of Tucson, My car can take 4 people and their gear, I currently have one rider now, that leaves me with two spaces.
If you live on the east side and are willing to come to my home and park here I can drive you.
If you are looking for a ride share or are willing to provide a ride to another photo walker, enter the discussion and let us know.
Another possibility is for you to drive to the start point, then to the gathering point at “In and Out Burger” leave a car there and grab a seat with another photo walker for the trip to and from San Xavier Mission.
If you have the least hesitation about riding in someone else’s car or taking someone in your vehicle, then just take care of your own transportation.

Hi Bob,
I want to make sure I’m clear on where we’re supposed to meet up at the beginning of the walk on Oct 4th. I apologize, but I couldn’t find where we are meeting and where the start point will be.
Thanks so much!
Beth
Hi Beth,
As the map above states, El Minutio Cafe at 354 S Main Ave, Tucson, AZ 85701 at about 3 PM. You will find a bunch of people with cameras milling about on the sidewalk outside of the cafe. If you navigate g=by iPhone, Siri will take you right there.
I have made up a rudimentary “Guide” for Apple Maps.app in the iPhone that will show the three places to meet. If you send me your email address used for Apple I will sent the “Guide” to you.
More about that here in the discussion soon.

Bob, thank you so much for organizing this photowalk for us. The location was a fantastic choice. We were blessed with a gorgeous day, lots of subject matter and various lighting opportunities for our creative outlets. You really set us up for success here. The sunset you ordered came right on time and did not disappoint. I look forward to our next adventure!
