About This Walk
The Adobe Photo Team is pleased to have Glyn Dewis lead the photo walk in Winchester on Saturday 3rd October, from 10 am to 1pm.
Join Glyn for a relaxed, sociable walk through this beautiful historic city, exploring a wonderful mix of grand architecture, quiet streets and riverside scenery, with plenty of opportunities to stop, take photographs and chat along the way.
Starting outside Winchester Guildhall, we’ll head past King Alfred’s statue towards City Bridge and Winchester City Mill, before following the River Itchen along The Weirs. Flowing water, reflections, birdsong and weathered stone walls offer a lovely contrast to the bustle of the city centre.
We’ll then explore College Street, passing Winchester College and Jane Austen’s final home, before making our way through Kingsgate and Prior’s Gate into Cathedral Close. Expect characterful doorways, medieval arches, the beautiful half-timbered Cheyney Court and, of course, Winchester Cathedral. Our final stretch takes us through The Square, past the Buttercross and along the lively High Street, returning to the Guildhall.
Whether you enjoy architecture, street photography, riverside scenes or spotting the small details others walk past, there will be plenty to catch your eye. All experience levels are welcome, and you can bring any camera, including your phone. Above all, this is a chance to enjoy photography together, share ideas and see Winchester with fresh eyes.
Please meet outside the main entrance of Winchester Guildhall, The Broadway, Winchester, SO23 9GH, at 9:45 am for a 10 am start. We’ll finish at the same location around noon.
The walk will take place outdoors, with some uneven paving and narrow riverside sections. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a waterproof layer—and a little curiosity!
