About This Walk
Boardwalk, Willow Flats, Ragged Ass Road – Discover Yellowknife’s waterfront through your lens and capture the colours and character of Yellowknife’s waterfront and Old Town in this relaxed photo walk.
This Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk will take us along the Rotary Park boardwalk through the Willow Flats wetlands, winding up into historic Ragged Ass Road and the Old Town waterfront. It’s a casual photography event – not a race – just a chance to slow down, explore, and enjoy Yellowknife’s beauty together with others who love to walk and click.
The camera you have is the one that will work. Bring your DSLR, mirrorless, point-and-shoot, or just your phone – all are welcome, as are photographers of every level. After the walk, participants can enter their best photo into a friendly contest if they wish, though there’s absolutely no need to enter if they prefer not to. The contest is simply a fun addition that lets us pay it forward to our walkers for participating in this worldwide event, which helps raise funds for the Springs of Hope Orphanage in Kenya – please consider donating to this special fundraiser.
Expect cool fall Yellowknife weather by the water and in Old Town. Please bring a small pack to carry any camera gear, personal items, wallet, water, and warm layers to stay comfortable during our two-hour walk.
I’m Carla – your photo lead. I’m a longtime Yellowknifer who loves photography, the North and being part of a creative community. I’m looking forward to meeting fellow photographers and all those who want to capture some unique, fun images while sharing a walk through this very special part of Yellowknife, full of history and unique possibilities.
* For those who wish, we’ll wrap up at the Woodyard Brew Pub to share images, conversation, and a meal together. Food and drinks are at your own cost.
