Where We Will Meet

580 20th Street in San Francisco — down the block from RH

Where The Walk Will End

We'll end at the double decker bus at Spark Social.

About This Walk

Come check out a lesser-known part of San Francisco — but one that is great for urban photography.

During this photo walk, you will see:

  • 1940s industrial architecture (much being renewed and repurposed)
  • Parks built from reclaimed World War II shipbuilding sites
  • A rapidly developing new San Francisco neighborhood
  • Modern architecture
  • The interactive public areas outside of the Chase Center
  • Abundant public art
  • Lots of color

Walking distance: 1.75 miles

Terrain/accessibility: Mostly flat (with one or two staircases along the way)

Meet-up logistics:
  • Location: 580 20th Street. This is the building next to RH San Francisco. (Note: this is at the corner of Illinois Street. Do not get it confused with 20th Avenue)
  • Kickoff: I plan to start introductions promptly at 9:45 AM and begin the photo walk sharply at 10:00 AM. Please arrive by 9:30 or earlier if you need time to park or use the bathrooms.
  • Parking: There are street parking spots and paid parking lots at the start and end of the route. Parking seems better at the starting point. No events scheduled at Chase that day but that is subject to change.
  • Transit: The 3rd and 20th stop on the Muni T line is 1.5 blocks from the start
  • Bathrooms: RH San Francisco has bathrooms. Technically, they are for customers only. Management is accommodating but has requested ‘no professional cameras’ inside and no groups larger than 3 people. Be polite and don’t photograph inside without permission.
  • Breakfast/coffee: (I can’t walk on an empty stomach): There are a few cafes 1-2 blocks away. Look up Jolt N Bolt, Wooly Pig, or The Plant Cafe.

End logistics:

  • Time: ~noon
  • Location: Bus at Spark Social SF, 601 Mission Bay Blvd. North
    • Spark Social is a fun food truck park. Feel free to stay for a bite.
  • The starting point is a one-mile/20-minute simple walk back from Spark Social.
