About This Walk

This photo walk has something for everyone!

We’ll meet in Parking Lot 6 at the corner of W Francis Street and S Henry Street at 8:30 a.m. (GPS: 37°16’9.186″ N 76°42’22.548″ W) This is an outdoor parking lot across S Henry Street from the Art Museums and across W Francis Street from the Precarious Beer Project.

We’ll start by traveling back 250 years as we wander down Duke of Gloucester Street in Colonial Williamsburg. Our mid-morning destination is the Capitol, at the end of DoG Street.

Along the way, we’ll see interpreters in period costumes, colonial architecture, and perhaps George Washington on horseback.

At 11 am, we’ll gather on the Palace Green for a group photo in front of the Governor’s Palace.

Finally, we’ll end our walk at Blue Talon Bistro, where we’ll enjoy an optional early lunch and chat about our photos. If you’d like to stay for lunch, we’ll be finished by about 12:30 or 1:00.

You do not need to purchase a ticket to walk through Colonial Williamsburg; there’s plenty to shoot outdoors. However, tickets are necessary to enter the gardens and exhibitions. You can buy one online or at a ticket booth that we pass. If you’re local and have a Good Neighbor Pass, be sure to bring it. If it’s raining… the exhibitions are the place to stay dry…

This weekend will also be An Occasion for the Arts in Williamsburg, so there will be lots to see after our walk. The festival opens at 10 a.m., so you may want to plan extra time after lunch to wander around the entertainment and booths.

Unfortunately, the Farmer’s Market will not be open this weekend. If that changes, I’ll definitely let you know. It’s a wonderful place for photography!

And don’t worry about remembering all of this! When we meet, I’ll have maps of Colonial Williamsburg for everyone, along with a write-up of where we’ll meet for the group photo and where we’ll go for lunch. I’ll also include my mobile number in case you need to call me during the walk.

I’m looking forward to meeting everyone! I’m a Williamsburg-based travel photographer and educator. You can learn more about me on my website: carolinemaryan.com. I’ve been on Worldwide Photo Walks in Virginia and Seoul, South Korea, and this will be the eighth time I’ve led this WWPW in Williamsburg.

  1. If my wife wants to tag along but not be a photographer, does she need to register for the walk?
