About This Walk
This photo walk has something for everyone!
We’ll meet in Parking Lot 6 at the corner of W Francis Street and S Henry Street at 8:30 a.m. (GPS: 37°16’9.186″ N 76°42’22.548″ W) This is an outdoor parking lot across S Henry Street from the Art Museums and across W Francis Street from the Precarious Beer Project.
We’ll start by traveling back 250 years as we wander down Duke of Gloucester Street in Colonial Williamsburg. Our mid-morning destination is the Capitol, at the end of DoG Street.
Along the way, we’ll see interpreters in period costumes, colonial architecture, and perhaps George Washington on horseback.
At 11 am, we’ll gather on the Palace Green for a group photo in front of the Governor’s Palace.
Finally, we’ll end our walk at Blue Talon Bistro, where we’ll enjoy an optional early lunch and chat about our photos. If you’d like to stay for lunch, we’ll be finished by about 12:30 or 1:00.
You do not need to purchase a ticket to walk through Colonial Williamsburg; there’s plenty to shoot outdoors. However, tickets are necessary to enter the gardens and exhibitions. You can buy one online or at a ticket booth that we pass. If you’re local and have a Good Neighbor Pass, be sure to bring it. If it’s raining… the exhibitions are the place to stay dry…
This weekend will also be An Occasion for the Arts in Williamsburg, so there will be lots to see after our walk. The festival opens at 10 a.m., so you may want to plan extra time after lunch to wander around the entertainment and booths.
Unfortunately, the Farmer’s Market will not be open this weekend. If that changes, I’ll definitely let you know. It’s a wonderful place for photography!
And don’t worry about remembering all of this! When we meet, I’ll have maps of Colonial Williamsburg for everyone, along with a write-up of where we’ll meet for the group photo and where we’ll go for lunch. I’ll also include my mobile number in case you need to call me during the walk.
I’m looking forward to meeting everyone! I’m a Williamsburg-based travel photographer and educator. You can learn more about me on my website: carolinemaryan.com. I’ve been on Worldwide Photo Walks in Virginia and Seoul, South Korea, and this will be the eighth time I’ve led this WWPW in Williamsburg.
Really almost the last day to submit your photos!October 17th, 2024
Hi everyone, I’m sending this just in case you missed KelbyOne extending the time to submit your photos for the WWPW contest. If you tried to submit last week, you may have gotten an error message. They were closed due to the hurricane, but they are now open, and you have one more day to submit up to five of your favorites. The deadline is Friday, October 18th, 2024 at 11:59 PM EDT. The ones that have already been submitted are wonderful and well worth looking at, too!
Don’t forget to enter the photo contest!October 12th, 2024
Hi everyone, I hope you all have had time to submit your favorite photo from the walk to KelbyOne! Today is the last day. In past years, I could get into the site and see who had submitted their photos, but I’m getting an error message this year. I’m wondering if it’s due to their offices being closed due to the hurricane. Anyway, I hope this message gets through to you!
📷 See you tomorrow for the Worldwide Photo Walk! Here’s a quick update. 🤳October 4th, 2024
Hi everyone,
I’m excited to see you all tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. in Parking Lot #6. If you have any problems finding us, getting stuck in traffic, or not coming at all, please call my mobile at 713-252-3186. You can also text me!
Skip and I just finished a drive-by to check on the location of the tents for An Occasion for the Arts. Parking Lot #6 is not being used for tents! Whew!!! 😉 It seems like there are more artists in this year’s show. We should have no trouble parking because we’ll be there early before the art show begins.
Here’s one more important note: Blue Talon will not reserve our table for 11:30. They won’t seat us until 12 noon. But we will be seated in their covered outdoor area! Yay! It should be a beautiful day for it. This gives us a little more time to shoot photos. Or just sit and people-watch if we wear out. I’ve reserved 7 places which can become more if more of you can stay. I’ll take a head count for lunch when we meet at 8:30. Skip can go over to the restaurant and update the number if needed. If you have any questions, just send me a text!
See you in the morning!
Caroline
If my wife wants to tag along but not be a photographer, does she need to register for the walk?
Hi Bret, No, she doesn’t. You can enter the photo contest, but she can’t. That’s the only difference! We’d love to have her!
Thanks for leading a great photowalk! Best ever. What #hashtag do you want us to use when posting our photos from this year’s photowalk?
Don’t forget to vote for people who participated in our photowalk! It adds up for the People’s Choice Award.
