Where We Will Meet

Rocky Glen Falls parking lot off of Cass Ave./Bluff Rd.

Where The Walk Will End

Meet for lunch at the new Burr Ridge McDonald's 1 mile away.

About This Walk

Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve is one of the jewels of DuPage Country open spaces. This 2,503-acre preserve borders Darien and Lemont, along the Des Plaines river, and is known for its Rocky Glen waterfall (the area is named for Seymour “Bud” Waterfall, an early president of the Board of Commissioners so a waterfall was added to quell the many questions about where it was in the preserve), Sawmill Creek bluff overlook, and extensive trails with great opportunities for plant and wildlife photos.

Waterfall Glen contains 740 native plants species, 75 percent of all the plants known to grow naturally in DuPage County. More than 300 species of mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles and another 300 of invertebrates use the forest preserve either year-round or during their migrations.

There are 11 miles of trails across gently rolling to hilly terrain. We’ll focus on the gently rolling paths around Sawmill Creek in our walk. Afterwards, we can gather at the Rocky Glen Falls parking lot, then head out to the brand-new Burr Ridge McDonalds, about a mile away on Rt. 83 for lunch and picture sharing.

DIRECTIONS TO ROCKY GLEN FALLS LOT: From I-55, take Cass Avenue 1.5 miles south of Northgate Road to Bluff Road. Take Bluff Road 0.3 mile east to the lot.

Contest Deadline ApproachingOctober 11th, 2019

Hi everyone,

Thanks for coming out for the walk! Also, apologies again for missing a couple of you at the start. Hopefully, you still got some shots of beautiful Waterfall Glen!

I just want to remind everyone that the entry deadline for the contest is this Monday, Oct. 14th. Here are details on the contest: You should be able to enter your picture through your sign-in on the website.

Also, I posted the group picture on our walk page if anyone wants it.

Thank you again for participating. I look forward to seeing your submitted images!

P.S. The loud noise and shooting flames we encountered was a natural gas burn off of lines that go through the south part of the park.

2 Days to Go!October 3rd, 2019

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for signing up for the Worldwide Photo Walk at Waterfall Glen this Saturday morning (8:30 A). We have a small group so far, but it still will be a fun morning. Unfortunately, the weather forecast is not perfect for Saturday, but at this point, rain is only predicted for the afternoon, so hopefully we won’t have to worry in the morning.

ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: The website map points to the main parking lot for Waterfall Glen. I haven’t found a way to change it, but we ARE NOT meeting at the main lot, but rather AT THE ROCKY GLEN FALLS LOT, which is off of Bluff Rd., just after Cass Ave. ends and turns into Bluff. (See the directions in the body of the sign-up page.) There are about 15 spaces in that lot, plenty for us (if the park isn’t active early Saturday), but parking is also available on Bluff Rd. near the road entrance and the meeting place is just a short walk.

I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday. If you have friends or family that might be interested, have them sign up. We have plenty of room so far.
