About This Walk

Please join Tracy and John for an exciting sunset and evening walk which will begin at Union Station and end at the White House.  There will be tons of beautiful photo opportunities along the way.  We will start our journey photographing Union Station and head to the US Capitol Building, and then along Pennsylvania Ave and Constitution Ave to our final destination at the White House.  For architecture lovers and those who enjoy sunset, city and street photography, this is the walk for you!

This will be our third sunset and evening DC photowalk and the previous two have been amazing!  I am a new KelbyOne Instructor and I recently launched my very first class, “A Traveler’s Guide to Washington DC. Please sign up and join us!

  1. Hi Everyone,

Tracy and I are so excited for our 3rd annual Washington DC Photowalk, and we want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has signed up! To those of you who have joined us in past walks, we’re grateful for your continued participation, and for those joining us for the first time, welcome! We’re especially thankful to those of you traveling from out of town to be a part of this event.

Our past walks have been so much fun and we have had a blast every year! This year will be no exception.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sending out updates with important information, including gear recommendations and tips for getting around DC, so please keep an eye out for updates

I’d also like to remind you that this photowalk supports an incredible cause—The Springs of Hope Kenya Orphanage. This organization provides food, shelter, education, and empowerment to young orphans, helping them not just to survive, but to thrive. We’re asking each participant to consider making a donation, no matter the amount, to help make a real difference in these children’s lives. Every dollar truly counts.

Thank you all once again for participating, and stay tuned for more updates!

    Best,
    John Dukes

  2. Hi Everyone!

Can you believe our Photo Walk is just around the corner? Time really flies! Tracy and I are excited to see you all this Saturday!

Throughout the week, I’ll be sharing updates on our meeting times and locations. The weather in the DC area has been pretty wet and rainy lately, but it’s expected to clear up later this week. The forecast for Saturday looks sunny and pleasant, which should give us perfect conditions for the walk!

If you’ve joined one of my past photo walks, you know I like to organize a little get-together afterward. One of our favorite spots for good food and conversation is City Tap House in Penn Quarter, located at 901 9th St NW. I’m happy to announce that I’ve made a reservation for us there after the walk (around 8:15 pm). If you’d like to join us, we’d love to have you! The reservation is under John Dukes/Photowalk. It’s a casual, sports bar-style venue with a fun atmosphere and great food!

Please note, this is the City Tap House in Penn Quarter—not the one in Dupont Circle, so don’t get them mixed up!

For convenience, here’s my cell number: 443-547-5850.

If you’re unfamiliar with parking in DC, it can be expensive and frustrating. There’s a garage at Union Station where we’ll begin the walk, but it is costly, and you’ll need to return to retrieve your car after our last stop (either the White House or the restaurant). I highly recommend using mass transit or ridesharing services like Uber or Lyft. Many of us in the past have teamed up for rides, which is a great way to save. The DC Metro is also fantastic and, in my opinion, the best way to get around. You can take the Red Line to Union Station and then share a rideshare or metro ride back to Union Station or your next destination.

I’ll continue sending updates with more details as we approach the weekend, and I can’t wait to have a fun and enjoyable walk with you all! Thanks again for signing up!

    All the Best,
    John

  3. Hello everyone, and happy Friday! The Worldwide Photowalk weekend for 2024 is finally here, and Tracy and I are thrilled to have a great time together!

Here are a few last-minute tips and details to ensure you have an enjoyable experience.

We’ll meet at 5:30 PM in front of Union Station, right by the flagpoles. We’ll start with introductions, take a group photo, snap some pictures around Union Station, and then head down Pennsylvania Avenue, concluding our walk at the White House on the Constitution Avenue side.

Please wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain is flat and easy to navigate. While there are restrooms at Union Station, options are limited along the route to the White House, so it’s best to arrive early and use the facilities there before we start.

Feel free to bring whatever gear you like—an iPhone works just fine! If you’re bringing a DSLR or mirrorless camera, I suggest a lightweight tripod and a lens with a range of 24-240mm for the best experience. I’ll be bringing my Canon R5 with a 24-240mm lens and a tripod, but I plan to focus on helping others rather than taking many photos. Tracy will likely be capturing moments with my camera.

I’ll share details about a contest at the beginning of the walk. If you capture a shot you’d like to enter, you can submit it for consideration. It would be fantastic to see your work featured on the Grid alongside images from previous walks I’ve led in Washington, DC!

We’ll wrap up the walk around 7:30 PM at the White House. Make sure to have a telephoto lens that reaches at least 200mm and a tripod to get the best shots there.

Afterward, if you’d like to keep the fun going, we’ll be heading to City Tap House for some good food.

If you need to reach us or if you get lost, my number is 443-547-5850, and Tracy’s is 240-285-3886.

Thanks again, everyone! I can’t wait for Saturday!
