About This Walk

I spent 26 years working for the city of Tampa as a Firefighter Paramedic. I have spent a lot of time on the streets of downtown Tampa day and night doing my job. I have an extensive knowledge of the layout of downtown. On the job my attention was on saving lives and property. I didn’t have time to pause and really experience all the beauty the downtown area has to offer. However, since retiring from Tampa Fire Rescue I have had the time/ability to return back to the streets with a different focus and explore one of my passions…Long Exposure Night Photography.

Downtown Tampa is beautiful at night, especially the Riverwalk area, which runs along the Hillsborough river. The night changes everything. The harsh light of the day is gone and it’s much cooler. The city lights turn on in the buildings, street lights come on and the bridges are illuminated in ever changing color from LED lights. All this light is reflected in the water as well. It is truly a well designed area that warrants spending time there photographically. It would be a pleasure showing you a beautiful part of the city of Tampa after hours when the real “magic” happens.

I will be hosting a free class prior to the walk for those of you who would like to learn about long exposure/night photography prior to the actual walk. I will announce the date and details later. It will be held at the starting point for the walk (Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park – 1001 N Blvd, Tampa, FL).

For those of you who attended the last photo walk I led for KelbyOne a few years ago it is the same location as before. We will start our walk at the park and walk along the riverfront in a big loop, crossing two bridges and returning to the staring point where you parked your vehicle. It is an easy walk, probably a mile total length and flat, as this is Florida 🙂

After the walk, for those interested in winding down, having a bite to eat and a drink or two we could meed at a local spot. It’s about 2 miles from our walk area. Here is the address of : Rick’s on the River – 2305 N Willow Ave, Tampa, FL 33607 – closes at 12am.

Hope to see you on the walk. We will have a lot of fun and get some great pictures in the process!

Cheers,

Daryl

If you are on Laurel st. Make a left on North Blvd. then left on Cypress 🙂

Parking update for the PhotowalkOctober 7th, 2023

Best Parking for the Photowalk:
FYI: your phone map app might lead you to the wrong parking lot for the walk.
There are 2 parking lots on the park.
1: Laurel st lot ( basketball courts) wrong lot
2: Cypress st lot (next to Tampa Prep)
Right parking lot.
If your on Laurel st just take it to North Blvd. & make a right, then right on Cypress.Park and walk to the water.
Boom…your there 🙂

I’m looking forward to our most excellent night walk on the beautiful downtown Tampa’s Riverwalk.

  1. Hello and welcome to the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk 2023.
Thank you for selecting my downtown Tampa Riverwalk “walk”…Welcome!
Once again for the third year in a row I have been offering a “free” workshop for “officially Registered” walkers on Night Photography/Long Exposures, specifically cityscapes. The workshop will be held at the Julian B. Lane Waterfront Park in beautiful downtown Tampa. It is the same exact spot where we will be starting our walk on October 7th, 2023. If you are interested in learning more about night photography and how I shoot cityscapes prior to the official walk I would love to have you.

Location: Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park
    1001 North Blvd.
    Tampa, Fl

    Time: 7pm-9pm ish

I would recommend bringing your camera gear ready to shoot and learn but not required.

Required gear for night photography: camera, card, battery(s), TRIPOD
Additional gear useful but not required: cable release, ND filters, small light (red or blue)

    Hope to see you there…Daryl
