Where We Will Meet

300 Sea Cliff Ave - plaza on corner by Central

Where The Walk Will End

Memorial Park scenic overlook. No meals planned after.

About This Walk

This my 9th year leading a Worldwide Photowalk!  Sea Cliff is a lovely hamlet on the North Shore of Long Island set on a cliff overlooking Hempstead Harbor.  Its streets are full of gorgeous Victorian and Gothic style homes with a rainbow of colors and gingerbread accents. There is also a quaint downtown area.  Veteran’s Memorial Park (a.k.a. “Sunset Park” ), at Prospect and Sea Cliff Avenues, commands an unobstructed view of Hempstead Harbor, Long Island Sound, and the New York and Connecticut shorelines.
Starting point: Meet at the plaza just west of the Sea Cliff Village Library and Village Hall, which is on the corner of Central, between Sea Cliff Ave and Summit Ave.  Nearest address is 300 Sea Cliff Ave for those wishing to map it.  Arrive on time as we will take a group photo by 3:15, then start our walk from there.

Ending point: We will officially end our walk at Memorial Park, but all are welcome to take the trip down to the beach via Cliff Way.  Note that road is a steep, hairpin turn one-way scenic drive from the park down to the beach.

Limited street parking.   Allow extra time in case you have to park a few blocks away.  Parking at the beach may be available if we are lucky, but it is possible to do a drive through or even walk down the steep hill and maybe find street parking a distance from there.   Please observe all traffic signs and one-way streets.  If you are arriving from Shore Road, you will need to make a very sharp, hairpin turn just before the actual beach and climb the steep road, though you can approach the area from more level roads like Sea Cliff Avenue from the west or Prospect Ave from the south to avoid that.

Important Notes:
1. We ask participants to socially distance and wear their masks when close to others.
2. By participating in this walk, you agree to hold harmless all walk leaders from any injuries yourself or others or damages to property, whether these are intentional or accidental.
3. This walk is for Adults ages 18+.
4. Please take care when snapping your photos and obey all traffic laws, parking signs and signals. Always look before stepping into a street.
5. Travel light and wear clothing suitable for the weather, including sunglasses, possibly a hat, sunscreen and good walking shoes since this is a hilly area, some parts on very steep slopes.

6. To ensure the safety and comfort of all of our participants, please refrain from and smoking, vaping of any kind while near others. Substance and alcohol abuse will automatically exclude you from participating.

Ilene Schuss Note that there are also people signing up on Facebook who will be joining us, but not competing in the contest. You do not have to enter the contest even if you signed up here on Scott Kelby's site, but it makes it so much more fun if you do! There is no cost for the walk or for the contest. Check out the FAQ for general info about the WWPW, the prizes, etc.

Ilene Schuss Learn about the secret walkways through Sea Cliff: https://www.liherald.com/stories/mapping-sea-cliffs-secret-walkways,115278 Daniel Gail Southerby has a free map available of these walkways. Their address is 266 Sea Cliff Ave in Sea Cliff. You can also purchase the map for $10 at the Sea Cliff Library and Village Hall.

Ilene Schuss The Sea Cliff museum has its webpage at https://www.seacliffmuseum.org/?fbclid=IwAR0ofxUMr2ahWgcnHklv6umd8o2RG-HQAia-jQoWfFbQhajXABdj-lXcRx4 Their number is (516) 801-3401 They will reopen Aug 13 11am-2pm for those who want to visit them before our walk begins for a look at some wonderful historic memorabilia.

Ilene Schuss We're up to nearly 20 walkers and growing! Some have RSVPed on our Facebook group event. We encourage you to check it out at https://www.facebook.com/events/1561608954257824?acontext=%7B%22event_action_history%22%3A[%7B%22surface%22%3A%22group%22%7D%2C%7B%22mechanism%22%3A%22group_featured_unit%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22group%22%7D]%2C%22ref_notif_type%22%3Anull%7D

Ilene Schuss Great news! The Sea Cliff Museum will be staying open till 3 pm on our walk day so people can stop in prior to then and learn more about the area. They will also provide up to 20 of their maps for free to our walkers at our starting point, first come, first served.

Ilene Schuss Correction - the maps of the Sea Cliff area hidden walks are on sale for $10 each at the Museum for those interested. You can still go to the Facebook group mentioned above to access the map I created of the historical landmark houses and the walk route. Those interested in a shorter walk can choose whichever streets they like and walk a shorter route of their choosing.

Ilene Schuss We are expecting GREAT weather for our walk! Thus far, there are 24 of us walking plus several maybes from all sources. Though we sincerely hope everyone can make it who registered here, if you plans have changed, update your status here (Click on LEAVE WALK"). We plan to gather at 3:00 pm PROMPT at the plaza for a group photo, then everyone will be on their way. It helps us when starting off, to have as accurate a headcount as possible. If you arrive late, you can still participate, but all contest entries MUST be taken in Sea Cliff from 3:15 - 5:15 (or possibly later, should circumstances change for starting our walk.) Now, clear your memory cards, charge up your power banks and batteries and get ready for a fun Worldwide Photowalk! See you soon! Ilene Schuss and Roni Chastain, walk leaders
