Where We Will Meet
Outside the Apple Store Covent Garden
Where The Walk Will End
Borough Market south of London Bridge
About This Walk
This is a casual, creative, and friendly photowalk open to all photographers.
The route will suit people interested in street, architecture, abstract, macro, and/or infrared photography. In some parts of London large tripods are not welcomed, so I recommend a travel tripod or other form of support if you are planning on using longer exposures.
You might want to be creatively constrained with a challenge such as one camera and one lens only.

Thank youAugust 14th, 2022
Thank you for joining me for our wander (and wonder) around London yesterday afternoon. It was lovely to meet so many keen photographers with so many different interests. It was heartwarming to note how well we gelled as a group.
For those of you interested in entering the free competition only photographs taken between 3:00pm and 6:15 pm will be eligible. I trust that you have many candidate photographs from which you can choose your entry.
Thanks again and my best wishes to you.
Stephen
Today’s the dayAugust 13th, 2022
Good morning everyone. I’m really looking forward to seeing you this afternoon. Are you like me and have remembered to pack “everything” and then realised that I’d forgotten something!
See you soon.
Best wishes,
Stephen
Less than a day to go before we start our PhotwalkAugust 12th, 2022
Thank you to everyone who has contacted me by email, text and WhatsApp. Currently, there are just over a third of our photo walkers in our WhatsApp group. The idea is to have a central place to stay in touch and provide updates during the afternoon. Please message me on 07990525814 to make sure that you are included.
If you have time to do so please download the files from the dropbox link https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/usz1nifxh6d7mvgttztn7/h?dl=0&rlkey=vy4kqd15jz8nx1koxy0lmaiis because the route map is included.
We will not be “strictly” following the step by step directions because it is inevitable that we will find interesting photo subjects in and around Covent Garden, St Paul’s, St. Dunstan in the East, London Bridge and Borough Market.
I can’t wait to see you outside the main entrance of The Apple Store in Covent Garden tomorrow afternoon. If you can arrive before 3:00pm it will be much appreciated.
May all your batteries be fullycharged, your cameras & lenses ready, and photographer’s eyes be open.
Best wishes
Stephen

Walk time extended to 6:15pmAugust 4th, 2022
Yesterday, at 3pm, Esperanza Del Rio and I met outside the Apple Store in Covent Garden in order to “dry run” our planned walk. We discovered that there are lots of great subjects to photograph along the main route and that there are many distractions in the side and parallel roads, especially in the Covent Garden and Fleet Street areas.
By the time we passed St Paul’s , it was clear that we were running out of time so, I decided to cut out part of the route (the section that takes in St Dunstan In The East Church Gardens). This was a disappointment because there are many opportunities for great photographs in that area. After taking the decision to shorten the route yesterday it was already 5:15pm when I reached Borough Market. Obviously, something needed to be changed.
This morning, rather than shorten our photowalk, I decided to extend the planned walk end time to 6:15pm because this will give you more time to chat, explore and photograph on 13th August.
Please let me know your thoughts.
BTW If you want to bring a friend or two along with you on the 13th, please encourage them to sign up for our photowalk.
With thanks and best wishes,
Stephen

Our WhatsApp group for our photowalkAugust 1st, 2022
Please let me know if you want to join our WhatsApp group for our photowalk. I ask because it is very easy for our group to become fragmented during the walk as we all travel at different speeds and will stop for some time at different locations. My number is 07990525814
If you are already using WhatsApp then you might know that it has a function that enables you to show your location for a limited time. This function is switched off by default. Instructions about how to use this feature can be found here:

There is no obligation but you might well find it very useful on the day.

Welcome and slight change of end destinationJuly 22nd, 2022
First of all, please accept my thanks and welcome for joining our photo walkers. You might have notices that when I originally set up our walk that the end destination was in the middle of London Bridge. I have updated this to Borough Market to enable us to gather if we want to chat about your walk experience and the photographs that you created. If you have any criticisms, ideas, observations or other thoughts please let me know. Thank you, Stephen

Stephen Cotterell Have you had a chance to think about the associated worldwide photowalk contest? The information link is https://worldwidephotowalk.com/#FAQ The rules can also be found in the FAQ. Here is a copy QUOTE What Are The Photo Contest Rules? In order for all walkers to have the same opportunities to capture images during the walk, the following rules must be followed: You may only submit one photo Collages aren’t allowed, as they are technically more than one photo. But, the following editing is allowed (but not required): Contrast & saturation adjustments. Color to B&W transitions. Removal of distracting elements. Creation of HDR & Panoramas. Infrared Use of Plug-ins such as ON1, Boris FX, etc. Adding watermarks. Photos must be taken during the walk (not before or after) END QUOTE
Richard Martin I thought that this was taking place on the 12th, Friday?
Martin Greenaway Hi Stephen, I've had an email from the photowalk site telling me we can upload our best shot, but the "contest" button doesn't seem to appear on the walk page. Am I missing something? If so, could you possibly post the link here, please?
Sarah Gjertsen I can't seem to see the group photo (from Greg) - looked at the "about this walk", am I missing a special button somewhere?
Stephen Cotterell Please leave a comment if you have any ideas, questions, or observations to share. Thank you, Stephen
