About This Walk
Roslyn Village has a number of historic landmarks and homes, a quaint downtown with views of Hempstead Harbor, lovely Gerry Park, which features a lovely duckpond with nice reflections of the surrounding, colonial buildings, and a Gristmill. It even has the Ellen E. Ward Memorial Clock Tower! There is also a waterfront and the nearby Viaduct that soars high above Hempstead Harbor. A short drive away are Cedarmere Park, which is the William Cullen Bryant Estate, set on steep, but scenic grounds overlooking the harbor and the Nassau County Museum of Art’s Arboretum with its sweeping grounds and interesting sculptures.
Anywhere in Roslyn is fair game for the photo contest, though our focus will be on the area surrounding Gerry Park. We will meet in the lobby at the Bryant Library at 3 pm and take our group photo by the pond in Gerry Park by 3:30. Our walk will start immediately after and run till 4:30 pm. Please check with our discussion tab as updates are added. You can use any kind of camera, and all levels of abilities are welcome. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and exercise caution when walking on unlevel ground or crossing streets. You can walk, bicycle ride and even drive to cover more ground if you wish as people will probably fan out on their own after a point to other locations within beautiful Roslyn.
Here is the link to a parking map of Roslyn Village: village_parking_lots.pdf (roslynny.gov) Please obey all parking signs and feed the meters if you park in one that has these. Note that there will be a family-friendly costume party Author talk event in the library 2-3. Please take extra care around them and expect spots near the library to be taken up by that initially.
