About This Walk
Hey everyone! My name is Cherin and I’m the owner of Doggytography. I’m thrilled to be one of the leaders for this year’s Worldwide Photowalk! We’ll be exploring the Old Railroad Trail (Shortline Trail) in Tallulah Falls. You’ll find plenty of photo opportunities, including scenic pathways, old bridges and river rapids.
A 24-70mm lens is a great choice for this walk but don’t worry if you only have a cell phone camera — phone photography is absolutely welcome. This is a fantastic chance to enjoy the day with fellow photography enthusiasts and pick up some new tips and tricks.
Meeting Location:
We’ll meet at the Old Tallulah Falls Jail (34.7428720, -83.4033600) at 9:45 AM. The walk will start at 10:00 AM. To get to the jail, follow Terrora Circle (immediately adjacent to the Riley C. Thurmond Memorial Bridge on GA-15) into the park. Continue straight through the beach area. The road will narrow, and you’ll see 45 parallel parking spaces on the right (yes, I counted!). Park in any of these spaces, then walk towards the last parking spot and cross the road. The jail will be about 50 feet to your right. I’ll be keeping an eye out for everyone.
I walked the Shortline Trail, and it took me 52 minutes at a brisk pace. At a photographer’s pace, we should finish in about 2 hours. After our walk, we’ll head to The Edge Café next to the park for lunch, drinks, and some great conversation. I can’t wait to see the amazing photos you capture, and I’m happy to discuss any photography questions you might have.
A Few Notes:
- Park Entry Fee: There is a $5 cash entry fee for the state park (pay box) unless you have an annual state park pass.
- Additional Exploration: Feel free to explore the park further after our walk and lunch. There are more trails and areas to enjoy the water and small rapids, so bring appropriate clothing. There’s also a beach area.
- At The Edge Cafe: There’s a lovely play area for kids. If you’re interested in wall climbing, there’s a small fee, and you’ll need to sign a waiver.
Looking forward to seeing you all there and sharing a fantastic day of photography!
