About This Walk
Hi everybody this will be the second walk I have done for Scott Kelby. I am a member of Gwent Photographic Society and can give you information about joining this club if required. I have been a keen photographer for about Forty years.
We will be starting at The Steel Wave and heading down the river bank walk towards the Transporter Bridge. At the bridge we will make our way towards Belle Vue Park taking photos along the way. Please be aware that the walk through this park is quite steep. While here we can split up into smaller groups and enjoy the wonderful colours of the flowers (time in park will be sorted on the day). Next stop will be at Newport Cathedral which was founded in the 5th Century. While it is the size of a large parish church it’s history and development from the sixth to the twentieth century make it arguably one of the most interesting religious buildings in Wales. Our final stop will be at the famous Westgate Hotel. On 4th November 1839 thousands of local Chartists marched into Newport to protest about the rights of ordinary working people. They were confronted by the Mayor and troops and 22 people were killed and over 50 people seriously wounded.
