Where The Walk Will End

The Tyne Bar, NE6 1LP

About This Walk

We’ll meet at the Cycle Hub, the car park is huge and has typically loads of spaces, last time I was there (23rd July) parking was 40p per hour.

We’ll walk past the Tyne Bar (where we’ll end the walk) and make a loop around Ouseburn, where there are some great-looking former industrial buildings, up to the City Farm, and then head back to the Quayside.  We’ll cross the Millenium Bridge where you can enter the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts. Crossing over the High-Level Bridge back to the Newcastle side of the River past the Castle.  You can visit St Nicholas Cathedral, through the Bigg Market, to the Grainger Market, and on to Grey’s Monument (normally buskers and/or political protests here).

Down Grey Street/Dean Street to the Quayside and back along to the Tyne Bar for a drink and to rest your feet.

Total distance 1.9 miles. I’ve set aside 2.5 hours for the walk but that depends on how fast you walk, how long you stop at places, if you stop off for a coffee or a Greggs pasty. The time you take is entirely up to you.

I’m Mark Slavin, a keen amateur photographer for over 25 years, I like taking images of everything (Landscapes, People, animals, etc.). A Photowalk around Newcastle is an ideal chance for you to take Street, Cityscapes and landscapes. The advantage of being in a group is that you are actually less conspicuous (you don’t stick out like a sore thumb), so if you’re a little nervous about taking photos of people you don’t know then there will be safety in numbers.  I’m more than happy to offer advice but I don’t know everything and that’s the point… we’re all there to learn from each other.

For some reason I keep getting a WordPress error whenever I try to reply to discussions.  So far I can see 1 person in the roster, but 2 people have commented – so feel free to bring friends with you (even if they don’t have a proper camera).

Laura Jenkins Hi Mark I’m looking forward to this walk - how many are we so far?
