Where We Will Meet

In front of Pacific Elementary School. Parking on street.

Where The Walk Will End

Under the Manhattan Beach Pier, by the water

About This Walk

Scott picked the day of the big Manhattan Beach Old Town Home Fair to stage the Photowalk, so everyone gets a double double.

Originally, we were going to do the classic: photographing the jewel of the Southern California South Bay and exploring the fabled Manhattan Beach Pier, Strand, beach, morning surfers and all the other ocean themed shots in this small, extremely photogenic beach community.

But now you all get a twofer. We’re going to still do that, but we also get the fair, which kicks off at 7:30 a.m. with a 10K race.

So we’ll begin by photographing the opening of the race, then head down to the water, pick up race and fair details, (the winner, etc.) and continue on exploring Manhattan Beach. Then afterwards, you’ve got a parking spot. Explore the Fair.

Your walk is with a local photographer! Jefferson Graham lives in Manhattan Beach and has been documenting it for over 20 years. https://www.jeffersongraham.net/Jefferson-Graham-Portfolio/Travel-Photography/Manhattan-Beach

Cameras are welcome, as our smartphones. Jeff has a killer smartphone tip for how to get dreamy flowing water under the Pier.

What could be more fun than meeting at the beach on a Saturday morning and taking a walk? Opening our camera eyes and capturing great photos along the way, right?

If you haven’t checked out Jeff’s Photowalk video series on YouTube, there’s a Manhattan Beach episode, along with segments from nearby Hermosa Beach and Palos Verdes. Check it out: http://youtube.com/jeffersongraham

See you at 7 a.m. sharp Saturday!October 4th, 2019

Can’t wait for the morning!
Quick reminders: Meet at Pacific School at 7 a.m. sharp, 1200 Pacific Avenue, Manhattan Beach.
Street parking should be plentiful.
We will walk right down the hill, from Pacific and 12th to 3rd Street, where the Hometown Fair race begins.
If for some reason you can’t make it to Pacific, meet us at the race. We’ll be the photographers at the front of the line.
We’ll then head down 1st Street to the Strand, and make our way up to the Manhattan Beach Pier.
We’ll do our group shot at 9 a.m., under the Pier, and then have a meet-up over bagels or whatever.
The goal for tomorrow is to have fun taking photos on a beautiful day in paradise and meet some new friends.
I’m jeffersongraham@gmail.com if you have any questions.
P.S. I’ll have the new iPhone 11 Pro with me and GoPro Hero 8 if you want to check them out.
See you Saturday!

Thursday update – group photo 9:30 under the Pier, then snacksOctober 3rd, 2019

We just got a new member of our troupe, so I’m re-sending this from last night.
Hi Kevin!
Hey everyone–look forward to seeing you on Saturday for the Photowalk!
Reminder that we’ll meet at Pacific School, 7 a.m. sharp, walk 20 minutes down the hill to the race, catch the open at 7:30, then head down to the beach, about 5 blocks away.
We’ll finish up around 9:30. Group photo is then, under the Pier.
Then we’ll go have a snack and get to know each other–at the Fair just up the street.
The goal for Saturday is simple: to meet like-minded people and have fun. Smartphones are fine, and if you’re bringing cameras, any lens will do. A telephoto will help for surfer shots, but wide or normal lenses also great.
Any questions, feel free to e-mail me jeffersongraham@gmail.com
Also, along with some of the other Kelby leaders, I put a Facebook group for us to share photos with other folks from SoCal, after the fact. Please sign up here:

Look forward to meeting all of you!
