About This Walk

Step Back in Time to the most extensively restored mission in California. La Purisima Mission in Lompoc was founded in 1787 and offers a fabulous opportunity to explore California’s heritage. In addition to the restored buildings, chapel and mission gardens, there is a museum and various hiking trails walking through a canopy of ancient oaks, chaparral and more in the 2,000 acre park.

This year’s photo walk offers a variety of photo opportunities from architecture, to fauna and flora at one of California’s most beautiful missions. There is various livestock at the mission, fountains, gardens and more.

After the walk, we’ll gather under the oaks at the picnic tables behind the visitors center. A light lunch/snacks and drinks will be provided.

The Mission grounds are open from 9am to 5pm, there is a free tour at 11am and 1pm and the visitors center is open from 10am to 4pm.  There is a $6 parking fee and the mission grounds are free.

Contest Submission and Other InfoAugust 19th, 2022

Hello everyone! I’d like to go over several items, some housekeeping and info. I’ve got a few links for you below as well.

First, if you haven’t already, you still have time to post your one favorite photo to enter the competition. All photo contest submissions must be submitted by August 26, at 11:59pm ET. It’s easy to enter. Instructions are listed below on the bottom of this update.

Once you have uploaded your one favorite shot, you can also view the photos that have been entered worldwide. There are some amazing shots, and it’s well worth checking out the page. You can view the page by the newest submissions, most liked and most commented. You can also just look at our own group entries. Right now, I believe two of you have entered. Once you enter, you will see your photo on this page too. There is also a people’s choice award independent from the Kelby contest, so you may want to click the heart icon on some of your favorite images, and for sure on our group’s pics! The gallery page is located at: https://worldwidephotowalk.com/gallery/

Also don’t forget to add some of your favorite shots of the day to share with the others in our group on the Flickr page. If you aren’t a Flickr member, you can join for free, upload your favorite walk photos and then head to the group page and share them with the others that were on our walk. It’s always fun to see what photos other walkers took at the same location. The group page is at: https://www.flickr.com/groups/14837616@N23/?new

Last item to share right now is to thank you again for walking with me. It’s always a fun time. Kelby WWPW has already announced they are planning next year’s walk, but they haven’t yet said what month it will be in, but we’ll be ready as soon as they do. A couple of you mentioned it would be fun to do Solvang at night. We can consider that, maybe start an hour before dark to get the best of both worlds, we can get some day shots and then night shots as well. It’s a very picturesque town, easy to walk and the night lights are beautiful. There is also a Mission there, not as extensive as La Purisima, but nice. Let me know what you think.

Here is the information to enter the contest:
Edit your favorite photo, making sure the final file size is less than 5MB.
Login to your account at worldwidephotowalk.com.
Navigate to Your Walk found in the top navigation bar.
Scroll down and click on the Contest tab found under the map.
Use the form provided to upload your photo submission.

Thank you everyone!August 13th, 2022

Thank you all who participated in the 2022 #WWPW What a fun time we had. Below is a link to our personal Flickr page to upload as many photos from the walk that you would like. It’s always fun to see what others captured through their lenses. I’ll be out of town until Tuesday, but I can’t wait to share my photos. I can’t wait to see everyone’s World Famous Hummingbird shots! Also don’t forget in the next few days to upload your ONE favorite shot to the Kelby Photo Page where you signed up to enter the contest. The Flickr page is just for our group. Thanks again, it was great seeing you all.

Hello Walkers!August 8th, 2022

Hello WWPW Walkers! Hope you are getting excited for this weekend’s walk. The weather should be beautiful. The forecast is calling for 75 degrees. I’m looking forward to seeing those of you I haven’t seen in a while and also meeting some new friends. There is still time to register, so be sure to let any photog friends know about the walk. If you’ve never been to the Mission here are the directions (below) from the 101 coming north or south. Any questions, feel free to contact me. See you all on Saturday!

To reach the mission from the north or the south, take Highway 101 to Buellton. Take Exit 140A, for Buellton/Solvang – Highway 246 – and head west (a right turn from the northbound exit, a left turn if southbound).

Proceed west on Highway 246 for approximately 18 miles. On a slight downhill grade you will pass the La Purísima Golf Course on the right. After the golf course, take the second right.

Continue on Purisima Road approximately 1 mile. The mission entrance is on the right.
