Where We Will Meet

On Sinclair Street, on the pavement outside the Co-Op

Where The Walk Will End

The Park Pavillion & Cafe in Hermitage Park

About This Walk

This walk is designed to take in as much of what makes Helensburgh special as possible.  We will meet on Sinclair Street outside the Co-Op supermarket and make our way down the hill towards the seafront where we’ll head west towards the pier.  A short detour down the pier affords wonderful views of the town.  We will then head back to Clyde Street where there are shops and cafés and the promenade.  At James Street we will head up the hill to the Community Garden before heading back east along Princes Street to Colquhoun Square, where there are churches, monuments, shops, cafes and benches if you need a wee rest at this point!  We will then make our way to Hermitage Park which has a wonderful selection of plants, the War Memorial and the kitchen garden.  It is traditional after one of these walks to gather together again, share images and chat about our walk and I propose meeting at the Park Pavillion & Café for this purpose.

My name is Kath and I’m a commercial photographer, based in Helensburgh, specialising in product photography and social documentary landscape and portraiture.  I offer Photography Workshops and one-to-one tution and I also run PHOTO CLUB Helensburgh as well as facilitating a Photography & Wellbeing Group for Jean’s Bothy in town.  I would be delighted if you joined me for this Scott Kelby Photowalk 2023 to take in some of Helensburgh’s highlights – all skill levels welcome, all cameras welcome – phones included.

  1. Good mornnig everyone! It seems that pinning my hopes on an earlier Met office forecast for Helensburgh have not paid off and the weather today promises to be pretty awful. That said, it’s October on the west coast of Scotland so probably not entirely unexepected! I am still planning to do the walk however – this is why we have anoraks!

The staff at the Park Pavillion Café let my daughter photograph the menu for today so you can decide if you’d like to join me for a coffee or a bite to eat after the walk. However I can’t seem to post it here. It’s the weekend brunch menu which you can see here: https://www.theparkpavilion.com/weekendbrunch There may also be specials on for those who’d like to come along and dissect the walk (swim?) experience.

I hope to see you all at the CoOp later on today at 12.

  2. Excellent – I’ll look forward to seeing you! I’ll be the drowned rat!

In all seriousnesss, most modern phones and cameras can cope with a bit of rainfall. If you’re at all worried you can fashion a makeshift camera cover from a plastic shopping bag. Bring a lens cloth or two to try and keep your lens clear – or make the most of the rain and shoot through the water as if it’s an instagram filter!

  3. Thanks Kath for organising this walk in Helensburgh. I have never known so much rain for a long time! I enjoyed time with the group and hope to meet up again sometime.
I have sorted through my pics, chose one did a bit of editing and submitted it.
    Best wishes
    Rose
