As your local photo walk guide, I’m excited to lead you through this picturesque riverfront cityscape. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, this event is perfect for capturing stunning images and expanding your photographic horizons.
What to Expect:
– Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow photographers, share your passion, and learn from others.
– A Chance to Give Back: The Worldwide Photo Walk supports The Springs of Hope Kenya Orphanage. By participating, you’re making a difference in the lives of children in need.
Photo Ideas:
– Stunning Architectural Images: Downtown has grown immensely in the last decade, featuring a mix of old and new architecture.
– Beautiful New Riverwalk: Capture everything from wildlife and the city skyline to street photography.
– Abstract Compositions: Experiment with different perspectives and find unexpected beauty in the details. (Bring your macro lens!)
Route:
We will start at Rosa Park Circle off Monroe Center Avenue. From there, we’ll head down to the RiverEdge Trail, passing various architectural highlights that have defined the Grand Rapids skyline for decades. Next, we’ll visit Calder Plaza to see La Grande Vitesse by Alexander Calder. After that, we’ll wander past some of the older downtown buildings and end at the modern Grand Rapids Art Museum. After a short walk back to your parked cars, we’ll meet at Uccello’s restaurant (subject to change) for some well-earned refueling (optional). Please let me know if you plan to join us at the restaurant so I can provide an accurate headcount for reservations. (You are responsible for the cost of your meal.)
Whether you’re an experienced photographer or just starting out, this walk is all about having fun while exploring new perspectives and improving your photography skills. All cameras are welcome—from iPhones to medium format film cameras! Let’s capture the beauty of our town together!
Erik Holladay, a former Grand Rapids Press photographer and current Studio616 resident, will lead the photowalk.
