About This Walk
Fullerton is an amazing city with a lot of history and beautiful architecture. We will start on the west side of the Fullerton College parking structure at the corner of Chapman and Pomona Ave. (There should be plenty of parking available on Pomona Ave.)
Starting at the auditorium, a beautiful piece of architecture, we will move on to the mural at the high school. Next we will walk down Pomona checking out a couple of beautiful old churches, the old post office on Commonwealth, and make our way down to the train station. After that we will make our way up Harbor Blvd. checking out the eclectic variety of shops and buildings. We will end up at El Faralito Jr where, if you’re interested, you can enjoy lunch, at your own expense.
This is a very casual walk. We can move at whatever pace makes the majority of the group comfortable. The last time I led this walk we were lucky enough to be able to pop into the auditorium while people were preparing for an event. We were asked, very nicely, to leave but we had a few minutes to photograph the interior. We were also lucky enough to photowalk on a day the railroad museum was open, giving us a chance to explore some of the train cars and learn a bit of history about rail travel through Fullerton. I can’t guarantee either of these opportunities happening again, but we can always hope!
I love photography. I got my first SLR in 1972, had my own darkroom a couple years later and have taken hundreds of thousands of pictures over the years. I prefer landscape photography, but I’m pretty proud to call Fullerton home after moving here in January of 2019. Before that I spent 30 years living in Brea, so I’ve been familiar with Fullerton for many years. I’m also a proud CSUF graduate (1980). I am a former teacher and principal and I love helping out new photographers. This walk is definitely for any skill level. Bring your cell phone or your top of the line mirrorless or DSLR. It doesn’t matter. No judgement here.
Welcome!July 26th, 2022
Welcome Tim and Raymond. I look forward to meeting you on the 13th!
Sue Sanders Are there significant hills on this walk? I ride a mobility scooter and have problems making it on steep hills
Michael Klewer No, Sue, it’s a relatively flat. I think you’ll be OK.
Michael Klewer We are now up to seven participants for our walk on Saturday. I’m looking forward to meeting everybody. I’ve checked the train museum website and they, unfortunately, will not be open. If you live in or around Fullerton you probably know that we will not be able to access the Auditorium and that it is still undergoing renovations. There will still be plenty of subjects to photograph, though. Don’t forget to meet on Pomona Ave. right next to the Fullerton College parking structure. See you Saturday at 9:00.
Larry Angier Looking forward to tomorrow's walk in Fullerton, Michael! Normally, I'd be leading in my community in Northern California but this year I'm in SoCal working on a couple of projects so it will be nice to just be a participant this time.
Jeff Whetstone Having trouble finding the link to the contest submission. Help!
Michael Klewer For those who would like to submit 1 (one) photo for consideration and to possibly represent our group, please read the following: WALKERS Overview: You, the walker, will submit your best photo taken during the walk to your walk leader (only 1 submission per walker). The leader will review all entries and pick one.
