About This Walk
This walk gives the opportunity to explore and photograph the people, architecture and landscape of the iconic Cardiff Bay Area. Starting at the historic Pierhead Building in the heart of the bay. The mostly flat walk of just over a mile takes in the Wales Millennium Centre, Roald Dahl Plass, Merchant Seaman’s Memorial, and the Norwegian Church, to name a few. You will have the opportunity to explore several photography genres including (but not limited to) Landscape, Architecture, Environmental Portraits, Wildlife, Action and Street.
As an experienced photographer (weddings and portraiture) and a college tutor (Cardiff & Vale College) I am familiar with the Cardiff Bay Area and have led several photo walks there with college students.
Make sure you have fully charged and spare batteries, sufficient memory storage/SD cards and maybe one or two lens options. Any camera, including Smartphone will be suitable. A tripod or monopod, although not essential, would provide further options.
I would also recommend that you have suitable wet weather clothing, just in case! As we say in Wales, ‘if you don’t like the weather, wait twenty minutes, it’s bound to change!’ Also comfortable walking shoes would be preferable.
I have planned the walk to allow for a leisurely pace, and to provide many photographic opportunities at a variety of locations along the route.

Change of start timeSeptember 11th, 2023
Hi there, to allow people time to travel from other parts of the country to Cardiff Bay, we will now meet at 11.00am, for an 11.15am start, and aim to finish by 1.15pm.
Looking forward to this! Such a great location for a photo walk.
