About This Walk
Join me for a walk around Historic Medina Square with many opportunities to photograph the streets, buildings, and gazebo! Bring Rain gear if needed and plan on an eventful walk. We have Coffee at the Cools Beans after the walk!
Medina is a community proud of its heritage. The Public Square and the buildings in the historic district surrounding the uptown park have been recognized as the physical, symbolic, commercial, governmental, cultural and social center of Medina since its founding nearly two centuries ago. Today, the city’s historic center defines the image of the community. Beloved by Medina’s residents, Public Square is a source of tremendous pride and it is often cited as a key reason why people choose to live in Medina.
Founded in 1818, one of the first things Medina’s earliest settlers did was to clear away the huge trees and create a public park, or, as it was called in their native New England, a Town Commons or Village Green. Business and residential buildings quickly sprang up along the four streets surrounding the park. The community received a grant of land on the condition it become the county seat for Medina County. In 1821, a fine brick building was built to house the county courts. It remains today, serving a thriving business on Public Square.
Weather is going to be perfect….Bring any camera. Lens selection: wide angle for scenery (18-55), telephoto for details (55-200 or 300 range) – loads of both! Polarizer filter – since the walk is in the afternoon -sunny skies. Sunscreen 🙂 and really good walking shoes – you’ll want to explore. We have a map that will highlight some historic points…and also we have several professional photographers sign up. William Snow Reminder! You may only submit one photo Collages aren’t allowed, as they are technically more than one photo. But, the following editing is allowed (but not required): Contrast & saturation adjustments. Color to B&W transitions. Removal of distracting elements. Creation of HDR & Panoramas. Infrared Use of Plug-ins such as ON1, Boris FX, etc. Adding watermarks. Photos must be taken during the walk (not before or after)
