Where We Will Meet

Restoran Yusoof dan Zakhir for breakfast

Where The Walk Will End

We meet at Texas Chicken, Wisma Fui Chiu for lunch

About This Walk

We gather and have breakfast at Restoran Yusoof dan Zakhir at 8.30 am. At 9.00 am we’ll have a short briefing and a group photo before we begin our photo walk. [BREAKING NEWS: I suddenly have a medical issue to attend to that morning and expect to arrive at the restaurant before 9.00 am. If I’m slightly late, please wait awhile for me to arrive. Thank you for your understanding.]

ROUTE MAP

We will follow the route map as in this Google Maps link: http://goo.gl/maps/4m8LnaDonQocgpkEA (also in the link at the end of this message) or download the route map in PDF from my Dropbox: bit.ly/WWPW2022KL-map. Note that not all the listed places in Google Maps are our places of interest but I had to include them to force Google Maps to create my intended route.

ETIQUETTE

Since we are a large group (about 50 walkers), I cannot have the entire group following behind me which would cause congestion issues in some of the places we will visit. So it’s best to keep to smaller groups, spread out from one another and follow the route map so we can cover the places of interest along the photo walk. Please be respectful and polite and don’t crowd around to shoot people, especially people conducting their business.

PLACES OF INTEREST ALONG THE ROUTE

We will first visit the Pasar Karat flea market. We will pass by Petaling Street but early morning the most stalls are not opened yet except for a few florist stalls; we will return to Petaling Street later when it’s busy. During my last visit a couple of weeks ago to Pasar Karat, it was relocated (due to upgrading) to further down the road (Lorong Petaling) but it could be relocated back to its original location on our photo walk day. The map shows the route through both the original lane and the relocated lane so that you won’t miss it regardless of its actual location on the day itself.

We will then visit the trendy Kwai Chai Hong, then to the Guan Di temple and to the Sin Sze Si temple. A visit to the Sri Mahamariamman Temple (just before Guan Di temple) may be possible on the day but sometimes they limit entry so this is optional. Next is to the River of Life area (lookout point to Masjid Jamek). After that we will then turn back to get to Medan Pasar which has a clock tower in the centre, and we will then visit the Masjid Jamek mosque which will be open for visitors mid-morning.

From there we will turn back along Jalan Tun Perak, turn right into Tun HS Lee and head towards Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin which will be very busy with foreign workers during weekends. We will then walk along Hub Lebuh Pudu, a large covered bus stop area ad then we cross the road to explore Petaling Street which should be fully opened and busy by late morning. We will then reach REX KL, a community and cultural hub with several unique eateries where you can have lunch. For a more standard fare you can check out restaurants around the area or cross the road to Texas Chicken, Wisma Fui Chiu, next to Kompleks Kota Raya along Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock.
