About This Walk
Calle Ocho -in Little Havana, is a fantastic location for “Street / Documentary Photography” with very unusual and challenging photo opportunities with… professional and avid domino (double nine) players, strong wall murals for backgrounds, interesting and friendly local characters for portraits, art galleries, cigar rolling factories, dancers / musicians, rivers of tourists from all over the world walking around, all within a very out-of-the-ordinary environment.
We’ll start at Maximo Gomez (Domino) Park for a taste of residents play domino / chess, then walk east about two/three city blocks (east bound -and returning to our starting point). Note that there are many cafeterias and restaurants along the route for water / refreshments if you desire. Please understand that even when the area is very safe, each participant is solely responsible for his / her actions, protection, and safekeeping.
Our photowalk will end around noon at the Ball & Chains Bar, just across from our starting point (Domino Park). Any participant interested in staying for lunch for additional insights in submitting images for the contest, as well as talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly of our event will convene (possibly) at The Pub Restaurant (1548 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33135) around 12:30 am.

TOMORROW MORNING -FOR OUR PHOTOWALK IN LITTLE HAVANA- APPEARS TO BE OK… WITH SOME CHANCE OF RAIN, BUT knowing South Florida’s weather, it’s likely to just have some sprinkles -if at all; anyway, come ready with rain protection for yourself and your gear. Also, the temps for walking will be (South Florida) pleasant low-80s, with winds around 13mph, and 40% cloud coverage. [PLEASE keep tabs on the weather forecast and use your judgement / FOR SURE, I’ll be there no matter if it rains or shines]
WE’LL MEET ON THE SOUTH SIDEWALK OF SW 8 STREET NEXT AT DOMINO PARK (1444 SW 8 Street, Miami 33135) at 10:00 am. There’s plenty of inexpensive (app-based) parking along a few blocks on SW 8th St and on the side streets.
> Don’t forget to charge your battery, clean camera / lens(es), check the memory card and bring an extra one just in case. Pack light so you’re comfortable and can move around easily. You could bring water to keep hydrated but there are many cafeterias and restaurants all along our route. Think twice about bringing a tripod… it’s daytime and likely a possible impediment to local foot traffic.
