About This Walk

The Adobe photo team and Lazy Birders are excited to lead a sunrise Bird Photo Walk at the beautiful birding patch, Heron’s Head Park. Our relaxed two-hour walk in this urban wetland hotspot will be packed with chances to snap stunning photos of wintering birds heading to enjoy San Francisco’s unique climate and also the local residents from sparrows and herons.

We aim to build a fun, supportive community where we can share and learn birding and photography techniques together. After the walk, we’ll offer an optional online session to edit our images and share what we’ve learned.

We prefer to keep the walk to a small fun group of 10 members, so sign up today!

Ethical bird photography: We believe in capturing beautiful bird photos while respecting their space, keeping a gentle distance, and ensuring our presence doesn’t disturb their habitat.

I am Vinish Janardhanan, an artist and photographer who lives in San Francisco with my wife, Neha. Neha is an avid bird and a certified California Naturalist. We have embarked on a shared adventure to explore California’s natural wonders as “Lazy Birders”. Through our journey, we hope to inspire a deeper respect and fascination for California’s natural wonders, among others. We are both enrolled in the Master Birder Program 2024, conducted by the California Academy of Sciences and Golden Gate Bird Alliance.

Our camera and birding gear: Body Sony  7II, Lens Sony FE 200-600mm, Tripod Sirui AM-225 Carbon Fiber Small, and Nocs Provisions Binoculars.

Accessibility: This walk is flat and should be quite accessible. The main trail is wheelchair-accessible. There are also portable toilets next to the parking lot.

Directions by car: From Third Street, turn east onto Cargo Way and continue until it ends at Jennings Street. Turn left on Jennings and right into the parking lot. Click here for a Google map.

Directions by transit: Take the 19 or 44 bus to the Middle Point/Evans Avenue stop, and walk down Jennings Street to the park. Or (further away), take the Third Street light rail to Cargo Way.
