A little bit of history:
Old Town Winchester is located within the heart of a 45-block National Register Historic District. It is photographer’s delight filled with rich history, wonderful architecture, quaint places, famous homes, art and more. We will begin at the Old Courthouse which is now the Civil War Museum and continue on the Loudoun Street Pedestrian Mall, City Hall, The Rouss Fire Company, George Washington’s Office Museum and other must-see, must photograph places. The Loudoun Street Pedestrian Mall also offers “a charming atmosphere” with strolling musicians, outdoor restaurants, carriage rides, quaint shops, beautiful historic churches and buildings. After the walk we will meet up at the Daily Grind Coffee Shop to review our photos.
If you are a pro photographer, amateur, newbie, own a SLR, DSLR, P&S, phone camera or whatever gear you have, we would love to have you walk with us. It’s free, fun and you have the opportunity to win prizes, meet other photographers, make new friends and enjoy a beautiful day of shooting a great historical town. We look forward to meeting you!
Your safety is important so a few tips: Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes as the Pedestrian Mall has areas of cobblestone; bring bottled water and a light jacket as the weather cools in the evening; bring your sunscreen!; parking is available on street and in three parking garages close by; please keep in mind if you bring tripod/monopod that weekends are very busy on the Pedestrian Mall with walkers, diners, family groups and constant activity.
See you October 1! RAIN OR SHINE!

Hello,
I believe there is a chance for rain on walk day, (which can make for great/interesting photography) but do you still hold the walk even it does rain?
If so, any suggestions how to keep cameras dry?
Thanks!
Sheila
Yes, the walk is rain or shine; Winchester very seldom has rain at 30-50% and if it does, very little and not a problem in Old Town Predestrian Mall as there are ample places for cover. The walking mall has buildings on both sides with protection from wind and storms so it should not be a problem. The predicted weather for rain is about two hours prior to the walk and YES, after rain is a great time to photograph as it makes beautiful reflections from buildings, glass and the stormy skies bring more detail into images. The mall is shaded, with trees and canopies for cover. If one feels the need, they can bring an umbrella or wear hoodie/windbreaker. A camera bag should be sufficient for large gear in the event needed. Depending upon your gear and if you do not have a “raincoat” for gear or large lens camera, bring along a zip lock or small plastic bag. For smaller pocket/purse cameras, you should be fine to tuck away on your person.
Also, a lens hood (if you’ve got one) can help protect your glass from stray droplets of water.
Is there a fee? Do I need to sign up to come on the walk or just show up?
Ronnie, the Worldwide Photowalk is free but you must be signed up to enter the contest for prizes.
Congratulations to Jeff Schryver for winning the Winchester WWPW! Thanks to all of the photo walkers, your participation and submission to the WWPW contest. You are all special and winners.
Best Regards
