Photo Walk Description

Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

Join me for a walk through historic Georgetown. We will begin on Wisconsin Ave. and Water St. and then make our way along the C&O canal tow path. From there we will turn North to M St. where we will make our way up the street past several historic buildings and Georgetown icons. We might even duck into some of the very cool alley along the way, which hold some great photographic opportunities. Finally, we will end our walk at the Shops of Georgetown Foodcourt where we can grab a bite, swap some stories, and do a little chimping. I hope you can join me.

  • Contest Entries

Hey everyone, thanks for coming out to join me on Saturday for our little walk through Georgetown. Although the temperature was high, it didn’t seem to get anyone down and that air conditioning in the Mall felt oh so good. Just a quick reminder that entries into the contest have to be posted by July 31 to be considered. I will pick one photo and the winner will receive a copy of one of Scott Kelby’s new books. Also, the winning entry will move on to compete with the winning images from around the World for a chance to win the grand prize, which has enough photo goodies in it to almost start your own photo business. For instructions on how to upload your image, check out the main Worldwide Photowalk page and read Brad Moore’s very descriptive instructions. Thanks again for joining me and I can’t wait to see your submissions.

  • PARKING INFO

I have to apologize about the parking info. I had sent out a couple of emails to all of my walkers using the group email client on my Leader page but apparently no one received them. Unfortunately I don’t have everyone’s email addresses so the group email thing is my only way of reaching out to everyone and apparently it isn’t working right.

Here’s the deal with parking. I had originally thought that there would be free parking on Saturdays but that’s not the case so it will probably cost you a few bucks no matter which option you choose. The first option is to park in one of the spots near the Waterfront Park on Water St. The rate is $0.25 per every 7.5 minutes so it will cost about $4.00 for 2 hours. There is a 4 hour time limit on the meters so time shouldn’t be a problem. There are a few parking spaces (less than half) that have new meters that accept credit cards but they will probably fill up early so I woudldn’t plan on one being open. I will be bringing extra quarters with me to help make change but if you can bring your own, it would be a big help. To get to these parking spaces, turn South on Wisconsin Ave. towards the river. At the T-intersection, make a right on Water St. and the parking spaces will be down the street on the left.

Another option, although a bit more pricey, is to park in the parking lot beneath the Shops of Georgetown mall. The daily cost is about $18 but that’s the daily rate so it might be a little less for just the morning. To access the parking garage, turn South on Wisconsin Ave. toward the river and the garage will be on your right.

A third option is to find a spot on the street. It won’t be very busy that early in the morning so there will be some street parking available, some of which might be free and some of it metered. You will have to just drive around the area to locate a spot. Please be carefeul though and check the parking enforcement signs to make sure you are parked legally. Parking tickets in DC can be very expensive. There are also some other other parking lots in the area but I am not sure what they charge so you would have to check with them and see.

I hope that helps and once again I apologize that you didn’t get this info earlier.

Safe travels and see you tomorrow,
    Jeff

  12. Jeff Revell says:

There should be free parking in front of the waterfront park on Water St., under the bridge but you can also park at the Georgetown Mall but the price is pretty steep at $18 for the day. I’ll verify this before the week’s end and send out an email.

  13. Jeff Revell says:

A change to my last comment. The parking on Water St. is not free! Please check your email for a message from me concerning all the parking options for the area.

    Thanks,
    Jeff
