Photo Walk Description
This sunrise walk around the US Capitol is a great opportunity to capture some great images. The Capitol before the sun rises is mirrored in the West face Capitol Reflecting Pool. From there we’ll walk to the south side of the US Botanical Gardens for a another great view of the Capitol as the sun rises behind it. Then, we’ll continue north in fron tof the building to the north side. Here, in Senate Park, is two wonderful fountains. Then a stop for a group photo on the east steps of the Capitol. Next, is the Supreme Court on 1st. Besides phots of it, we can get a view through the Court’s columns of the Capitol. At this point we are complete.
I have led this WWPW for the last two years and it is very popular. This year, the US Capitol Police are requiring everyone to filr a permit application. The link is:http://www.uscapitolpolice.gov/special_events/guidelines_app_page.pdf. Your application must be submitted not less than 5 days before the event. The permit must be picked up at police HQ on D St.

Robert: Do we really all need to file a permit? a) the application makes it seem like only one is needed for a group and b) it only applies to > 20 people and right now there are 5 of us.
Don’t know if my comment went through. I can’t make it to DC to hand deliver permit request, so I guess I’m out. Was Brad’s question answered?
As I read this, only one permit for the GROUP is necessary. Has anyone done this? If so, we’re all covered.
I’ve printed one and will fax it in on Monday.
Just spoke to them. Any individual who wants to use a tripod needs to have
a permit.
Any suggestions on where to park? I know there is normally parking available near the bot gardens (especially this early) — should I park there?
I’m a late comer and will still try to obtain the permit. However the locations listed above are not specific enough and not all on the U.S. Capitol grounds. What exact locations/spots do we need to include on the permit form? Thanks in advance. Would love to be there on Sunday!
Also, I was told today via phone that we would not be allowed on the East steps of the Capitol.
Hi Tiffany,
this is Jeff from the Photowalk. Send me an email at dcsplicer@gmail.com.
Nice to meet you and good shooting with you today.
Jeff, the site is dcelyfootball.com for the schedule; team lady cougars. Would be great if you could make it out one day. Games usually run from 8am-3pm (6 or 7 games per day).
Is the permit just if you want to use a tripod?
From what I was told, you are free to do handheld, but to use a tripod on the Capitol grounds, you’ll need the permit. I was planning to come even if I didn’t get the permit.
Permit is just for tripod shooting. Handheld is ok anywhere including east steps as far as I understand. The lady with cap police said they never “permit” the steps. We were discussing tripod permit at that time. She said if we didn’t get permit we could do handheld.
Looks like we’ll be looking for interesting rain shots bases on forecast!
Great meeting you all today. Hope everyone got some great shots! Thanks Bob for leading. Would love to see some of your stuff if you post to flickr or a personal website.

Does anybody know where Bob posted the group photo?
I’m interested in this as well. The “group leaders” thread to post group photos
has a group called “the Washington, D.C. group,” but it’s “a” group, not “the”
group. Ours hasn’t been posted anywhere I can see.
does anybody know how to load our photos?
Eric, there was a link to upload your photo under Bob’s photo on this page. I think the time has expired for the contest.
You can still upload your photos to the WWPW4 flickr group here:

Can we all link our photosets from the walk here? I’d like to see others work.
