Photo Walk Description

Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

Thank you so much for the interest to join this years Photowalk. We are glad to welcome you to our group and hopefully you will enjoy your time doing the Photowalk with us. Our walk venue this year features the tapestry of old and new Thai culture. For those who like flowers you will enjoy what Pak Khlong Talat has to offer. There are several flower stands here featuring some of the finest kinds that you can find in the Kingdom. Also along the way, the street is bulging with different activities which makes it a treat for those of you who enjoys street photography. But of course let’s not forget along the way we have the Wat Po where the reclining Buddha is situated. Plus Wat Arun also known as “The Temple of Dawn”, The Grand Palace and then finally Sanam Luang which you know caters to thousands of birds waiting for you to play and feed them. I believe this will make a very interesting Photowalk Venue.

This is all for now, I hope I can find time soon to do a test walk of our venue so I can give you more updates with regards to the specifics of the walk. Bear in mind that there might be slight changes in the sched or the exact route of the walk especially right after I check it out. Please feel free to send my your comments and suggestions at josemaria.tan (@) gmail.com. Or you can add me to your Twitter @josetanphotos

In the meantime, you can check out my site http://www.josesantiagotan.com for further updates about our groups walk.

Updates!!!

This year, for the second time around, we will have Manny Librodo, a Siam Pinoy featured personality in the past, as our main judge in choosing who took the best shot during the walk.

Considered by Scott Kelby himself to be “one of the 2009 top five photographers in the world”, it is such an honor and a privilege for us here in Siam Pinoy that he is willing to give us some of his time, to view your photos, and decide who gets the prize!

So register now, and if you know other friends who wish to get into this, send them this link. Have a fun shoot, everyone!

Updates!!!

Pak Klong Talat, or the Flower Market, offers a wide array of subjects for photographers, and so, we are all anticipating the many wonderful photos that registrants to this year’s walk will come up with on Saturday, the 24th!

You can start thinking about images that represent or show Thai culture, macro photography, portraits, street photography, to mention a few. Towards the end of the walk, we will be at the Democracy Monument, passing by the Giant Swing. So if you wish for some night shots with good lighting, the Monument will prove to be a good spot.

There’s a place called Cafe De Moc we can meet and chat with fellow walkers at he end of our walk. It’s an old place just around the Democracy Monument right beside the police box, but it opens at 5PM, and that gives us plenty of time to get together later to compare shots and/or share a few drinks.

But, let us not forget first to have our group photo taken, before we start the walk itself. So, at our meeting place, the Rama I statue, let’s all gather before we enjoy taking shot after shot of the interesting places and people we will be passing by around the Pak Klong Talat area.

This year, for the second time around, we will have Manny Librodo, considered by Scott Kelby himself to be “one of the top five photographers in the world”, as our judge on who takes the best photo during our walk this Saturday, the 24th of July.

So see you on Saturday, folks! I look forward to meeting you all, both old and new faces. Let’s have a fun and fruitful weekend together!

Last year was fun, and meeting new people and chumming up with old friends was priceless. We made new friends and we have done projects/freelance jobs with them as a result of walking with them. Great way to meet and greet with fellow photography enthusiasts!

  2. Candy Torres says:

It’s my first time to join Scott Kelby’s Worlwide Photowalk and I’m very excited;)
I’m sure it’s gonna be a lot of fun, sharing ideas and meeting new friends in photography.
    I can’t wait!

    Jose,

Please count me out this time as I have an appointment in Pataya on the 24th.
Parenyasak Sangneam will also attend a photo workshop.

I would still like to join when I have time.

    Thanks and more power

  8. Jose Tan says:

    Elbert,

No worries. We can have photowalks even on a smaller scale. In fact I am already getting venue suggestions from other people in preparation for future walks.

We have people who are in the waiting list. So please, if for some reasons, you cannot join today, please kindly unregister yourself so their names will be included in the group. This will also entitle them to join the contest and be able to upload photos to the group page.

    Thank you!

  12. Jose Tan says:

Since we will be limited to the number of photos that we will be able to upload here. I created a Flickr group where we all could enjoy posting as many Photo Walk Photos that we can.

You will need to create a Flickr account to be able to join the group.

    Uploading Contest Images

Photo Walk contest submissions will open on Sunday, July 25 and close July 31.

Here’s a short two-step walkthrough for submitting your best image to the Photo Walk contest.

Step 1) Go to WorldwidePhotoWalk.com and log in (look at the top right corner of the page)

Once you’re logged in, you’ll automatically go to your Photo Walk page.

Step 2) Once there, you’ll see a section called “Upload Your Photo” below the Meeting Location & Time (not today or tomorrow, but it’ll show up on Sunday):

Just follow the on-screen instructions and you’ll be good to go!

Each walker is allowed to submit one image to the contest. The deadline to submit is July 31. If you change your mind on which image you want to enter, you can change it up until the deadline.

After that, walk leaders will have till August 7 to choose the winning image from their walk. They won’t be able to make a selection until after the submission process is finished.

All of those winning images will then be posted in the People’s Choice gallery where everyone can vote for their favorite shot during the following week.

Then, on August 14, we’ll announce the Grand Prize, Honorable Mentions, and People’s Choice winners.

So where does Flickr play into all of this? Since this is a social event, we want you all to be able to share your images with the world! The contest we do here doesn’t really lend itself to that, so we’re suggesting that you share your shots on Flickr.

We’ve set up an official Worldwide Photo Walk Flickr group where anyone who takes part in the Photo Walk can share up to five images per day. Your leader may have set up a Flickr group just for your location too.

Are you required to submit an image to the contest, or to share photos on Flickr? Absolutely not. If you just want to have fun taking pictures with fellow photographers and making new friends, then we’re all for that!

Hope that answers the questions a number of you had about this. Happy Shooting!
