Photo Walk Description

Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

A circuit of Old Town—some industrial, some decrepit, some gentrified, some funky, some upscale. Start at Government & Fisgard, along Government to Pembroke, through the industrial section to Store, along Store to Pandora, up Pandora to Fan Tan Alley (which Google doesn’t recognize), through the alley to Fisgard, down Fisgard, across Store, down Swift to the Canoe Brew Pub (minors OK). There will be a variety of urban sights and textures. Lots of buses one block east on Douglas. There is a city parkade in the 600 block of Fisgard on the same plaza where we will be meeting.

I was born and raised in Victoria and am a freelancer/serious hobbyist and a member of NAPP. I often go on tele-photo walks with my distant friends, going out on the same day with the same theme and sharing our pictures online. These large photo walks are great social gatherings. It’s amazing to see what other people saw on the same route. All types of cameras welcome from cell phones and point-and-shoots to ludicrously expensive pro rigs. And, of course, all types of photographers welcome.

Hello all, (small all at the moment)

Good to see people signing up. Welcome. Welcome. I think we’ll have a great time. As there were some glitches, we were late getting started here in Victoria. Please let people know there is a local edition of the World Wide Photo Walk this year.

For those interested, i just checked, and the Flickr group for last year’s Victoria walk is still up.

See you all on the 24th and have a good Canada Day.

Gordon, looking forward to the walk but I can’t find this “Blue Pearl” meeting point. From your map and description, I wonder if it’s been renamed “Forum Chinese Food”?

  3. Bob Ianson says:

Gordon, I just an an ephinany of sorts. Is the Blue Pearl that silver ball thing right beside Starbucks?

    • Gordon Horne says:

Sorry to be slow in responding. Yes, trust your epiphany. The Big Pearl in the silver globe in the small plaza on the SE corner of Government & Fisgard. So named because it is centred on the Pearl River where many inhabitants of the old Chinatown came from.

  4. Bob Ianson says:

Thanks Gordon. See you on the 24th.

I have set up a Flickr group for this walk. This is separate from the contest. There is no limit to how many photos you can post, but anything more than twenty is probably excessive.

The group is invitation only, so you’ll need to send me an email either with your Flickr ID or from an email address you want to associate with a Flickr ID. You can use the Contact Leader link near the top of the page to send me that email.
