Photo Walk Description

Welcome to the 4th annual Kelby Photowalk. This year we will explore a section of the beautiful University of Arizona campus.

We will meet at 7:45 AM in front of Wilko, on the northwest corner of University and Park. The walk will start at 8:00 AM. You can park on the street, or in the Park Avenue garage (free), located behind the 7-Eleven, on the northeast corner of Park and Speedway.

This walk is easy in that it is flat. However, there is a shorter version of the walk, which is an option for those who do not do well in Tucson’s heat and who prefer to shoot in the shade.

We will meet back at Wilko for chimping, drinks, brunch, and most importantly, comradeship. Our goals remain the same as in years past:

1. be safe
2. make at least one new friend
3. have a great time
4. get some great photographs

Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. All the walks in the past were comprised of extremely friendly participants. If you would like to look through someone’s viewfinder, or ask for help with composition or exposure, please ask. This is a great opportunity to learn.

Once the photographs have been posted on the Web, you are certain to be amazed when you see fabulous shots that you missed because you did not visualize the shot that someone else did. This being said, let us add to our list:

5. learn to better visualize great shots

If you sign up and cannot attend, please remove yourself from the list so others on the waiting list can become “official.” Even so, every year there are no-shows. If this walk fills up, I will open a second, identical walk on Sunday.

I hope to see you all soon.

UPDATE: A few Kelby Photowalkers participated on an unofficial walk at the U of A in 2008. The route is nearly identical. The photos can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/uofaphotowalk/

I’ll try to go if I can. Will you send out a reminder before the event? That would help. Thanks!

    • Barney Streit says:

Frank, walk leaders do not have access to email addresses. Scott Kelby will no doubt post reminders on his blog. Just remember that you should sign up for the walk you wish to attend.

      • Marc Haberman says:

I tried to sign up for the Photo Walk on Oct 1 in tucson, but the damm security at the bottom of the sign up will not let me in. DOES IT HAVE TO BE THIS COMPLICATED?

      • Natanya Siegel says:

Thank you for putting this together. I finally was willing to take pictures and learn about my point and shoot. People are very helpful in the group.

  2. Melissa Haun says:

I’m trying to delete myself from this one — I can’t find how to do that!

  3. Jenn says:

Sounds like fun! Are these walks child friendly? I’d have mine in the stroller.

    • Barney Streit says:

Jenn, I have not yet seen anyone bring a child in a stroller. The route is about as stroller friendly as a route can get. As far as I know, there is nothing saying you cannot do this, so it’s up to you.

  4. Hi, Barney, I wonder if you’d be willing to do a presentation for our camera club – - all are welcome, free of charge. We are the Desert Viewfinders Camera Club. Our website is in transition , but you can learn more about us and view our gallery. We hope to have it up by the start of the new year – - -September 9.

We’d like to meet you, learn of your background and particular interest in photography; and tell us about the worldwide photowalk, how it started, what to look for etc. We have a digital projector to share your photos. We will meet from 7-9 Friday Sep 11 at the TMC Arizona Building. Are you interested? Candace A Read

    • Barney Streit says:

Hi Candace, Thank you for the invitation. Unfortunately, I will be in Las Vegas at Photoshop World during that time. I hope most of your members belong to NAPP. I have some promotional materials from them if you might be interested in handing them out during the meeting.

  5. We’ll miss you, but have a Great Time in Vegas! I look forward to your photowalk, I’ll pick up your brochures then.

    Hi Barney (Photo walk Leader)

Looking forward to another great Tucson photo walk. You always pick interesting places.
Having lunch with everyone also adds more photography conversation and meeting new
    friends.
    See you soon,

    Sandra

  8. Robert Cooley says:

Been with ya since the beginning Barney, can’t wait for another great walk although it will be hard to top Kitt Peak!

    • Barney Streit says:

Yes, Kitt Peak was special, even though our group got split into two and we were not able to dine together at the end. Be sure to take some shots of the old Steward Observatory on this walk; they will be a perfect compliment to your Kitt Peak photos.

  9. Kelia Gallagher says:

I’m interested but it would creat scheduling conflicts on saterday, you said you where going to make on on sunday. However I can not find that walk page.
If it dose exist can you link me to it pleas.

    • Barney Streit says:

Hi Kelia, If the Saturday walk had a waiting list (as in past years) then I would open a second walk on Sunday. However, the Saturday walk still has several openings. Hence, no Sunday Photowalk. Sorry…

  10. Katie Templeton says:

I will be unable to attend the walk Sat. Oct 1. I also found it difficult to remove my name.Katie Templeton

  11. Damian Montoya says:

    Hi Barney,

I am looking forward to the walk, lunch and meeting other photographers.

    See ya’ll on Saturday!

  12. Frank Tellez says:

Just signed up. Guess I wasn’t signed up before but it was a good time. Great model too. When’s the next photowalk? :)
