Photo Walk Description

Hey, there everyone! Soooo, the map is being a little wonky and instead of doing this for the 5th time… no seriously… the 5th time. I’m gonna leave it for now and just get this dang thing posted. I’ll fiddle some more later. ;P

Basically, here’s a walk with a difference. Mr. Kelby has pushed the walk back a bit this year, so we should be starting to see some really nice colours (eep, did I just say that?!). We’ll be taking a bit of a rural approach. Also, a bit later in the day to take advantage of those warm golden hues of the sun. Pretty, pretty! :D

So picture if you can, until I can get the map working straight. We’ll be meeting at the trailhead, that starts on 27, just south of IBR and following that all the way to 21. From there, you can wander down to the park and gazebo or go straight on back up to 27, enjoying the architecture and unique quaintness that Thornton has to offer. Once to 27, head north and meet back at the Tim Horton’s.

Now, the sun is supposed to set at 6:52pm on October 2 in our area. So, really, an end time of 6 is kind of not set in stone if everyone is enjoying themselves. If you wish to linger around and go for some awesome sunset shots, silhouettes, so forth, please do! This is a very informal thing. Meant for fun and exploration! Any style of photography is encouraged as is any kind of camera! Bring your SLRs, DSLRs, point’n'shoots and even Hipstas! :D Everything is game for the competition (as long as it’s captured within the time constraints of the walk and is available for digital submission).

I will have more information on how to submit as time goes on. Feel free to email me with any questions.

  • Our Winner!!!

Congratulations to Jason Ferber! His fantastic image embodied our whole walk! It speaks of the chilly weather on quite a fall day in a quaint small town. It sums up rural Ontario and this fantastic (if cold and damp) time of year.

I’d love to thank all of our walkers who submitted! The choice was so very difficult. Photographic skills all round are fantastic and we have some beautiful images as a result. Thank you so so much for coming out and making our walk so enjoyable.

Hope to see you all again next year! Keep on smiling and shooting!

  • Submission Deadline

Hi guys! Hope everything is well and you’re all enjoying this HEAT! Too bad we didn’t have it for the walk!

Just wanted to let you know, I’ve had 3 submissions for the contest (and they all look fantastic!) but the deadline has been extended to October 10th. So, you 2 remaining shooters, please, feel free to post anytime before midnight on the 10th! Would love to see your work!! Good luck!

  • Brrrrrrr Baby, It Was Cold Outside

Yet, many many thanks go to Janet, Rhonda, Claude, Lynn-Ann and Jason for trekking out into the damp and wind! Guys, you were all troopers! Thanks so much for making the walk. I can only hope next year is sunnier, more colourful and WARM. Can’t wait to see your pictures! :D I’m checking my card now for whatever jewels may be there.

  • Wow!

I hope everyone is excited! Tomorrow’s the day!

Looks like the weather could be a bit cloudy, and on the cool side, so be sure to wear layers! Don’t forget water, lip balm and sunscreen too!

I have to apologize for the google map here on the site… it’s really screwed up. Time doesn’t seem to have fixed it and the bugs don’t want to reset themselves. We’ll be meeting at the trailhead as originally planned, but having looked at it in the past few days our “official” route will take a bit of a turn down William St, where we can hook up with the trail or continue on. I will have highlighted maps available. Of course, the idea of the day is to explore and have fun! So, by all means, if you’d like to take the TransCanada all the way through, please do! Or, if you see something else that catches your eye, follow your muse! :)

I will also have in the print out, information how you can submit your pictures for adjudication and a chance to win the local prize and then move onto the worldwide pool!

Hope to see you! Rain or shine!

Never done one of these walks before, but saw all the hype on Scott’s Google+ site and #TheGridLive and thought I’d see if there was one near me – imagine finding one in Thornton! Have a rotten cold but hope I’ll be able to get out tomorrow and pray the forecast horrid weather holds off.

    • Lin! It would have been a pleasure to meet you, but we all understand and hope you’re feeling much better! It was a bit rainy and cold and there’s no sense in getting more sick! Please, feel better quickly and maybe we’ll get to see you at the next walk!
