About This Walk
The charm. You don’t have to walk far to witness Wiscasset’s historical charm—there are interesting sites on just about every corner. The town boasts some of the region’s most famous architectural landmarks. The Nickels-Sortwell House on Main Street features Federal-style architecture, with an elliptical stairway with rope-like carvings and the noted oval skylight. Castle Tucker is another must-see. The Victorian-style mansion is known for the upstairs piazza: two-story high windows overlooking the river. In the downtown streets, you’ll find a range of restaurants, shops, and attractions, including the 1812 Jail, the Lilac Cottage, the Wiscasset General Store, the Musical Wonder House, and the Octagon House.

WISCASSET PHOTOWALK UPDATE
O.K. the forecast is good; partly cloudy and 67 degrees… perfect for a Photowalk in Wiscasset!
A short cut to our start is to take a right before the Mobile Station as you are coming into downtown Wiscasset. Come over the hill past the beautiful Castle Tucker House (see below) and then bear right and end up at the public parking at the dock on Water Street. You may also just drive into Wiscasset and take at right at Sarah’s Café onto Water Street and go all the way to the end and meet us at the Public Dock.
There are several possibilities for walking tours. I will have maps and information for you at the start to help you make your decision.
After the walk at approximately 12:00+ or so we will be meeting at Sarah’s Café or the Schooner Bar (part of Sarah’s).
You may wish to see, visit, or tour the Castle Tucker House as part of your Photowalk:
The Nickels-Sortwell House on Maine St also is doing tours that day. https://www.historicnewengland.org/property/nickels-sortwell-house/
Wear your walking shoes and be ready for a beautiful walk in the “Prettiest Village in Maine”.
See you next Saturday!
