Photo Walk Description

We will be walking at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk as the sun sets. Should be a great time for street photography and to catch the lights of the rides. After, we will head over to the Santa Cruz Wharf for dinner and a chance to share pictures.

I scouted the location today and I am going to move the times to 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. I think this will give us more sunset time and let us see the lights of the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk is scheduled to close at 7:00 pm next week and the weather report looks good.

I set up a Flickr group for the walk today and put a couple of images there to get us started. The group is at http://www.flickr.com/groups/1737594@N25/ (or you can search for 2011 Boardwalk). After the walk, folks can upload pictures they want to share with the other group members to Flickr. This is separate from the process from uploading your submission for the photo contest. I will give more information about the contest at the walk and to the registered walkers through the website.

Looking forward to seeing everyone next week. -Jeremy

How do we sign up? I love to join this year.

  2. Jeremy Verinsky says:

Hi Joe, look for the green banner that says “Join This Walk” near the top of the map.

  3. Rafaela Hoessel says:

Im trying to join the walk but it keeps giving me a message ” enter captcha information”. What does it mean? I must be really tired if i cant figure it out.

    • Jeremy Verinsky says:

captcha is the nonsense words near the bottom of the entry form just above the submit button. It’s supposed to make sure your not a robot signing up since it’s a graphic and can’t be read like text.

  4. Marguerite MacDonald says:

OK – all signed up. I am looking forward to this. :) M.

  5. Carol Silveira says:

This walk sounds like a great deal of fun!! I can hardly wait!

  6. Vikrant Shokeen says:

    Can’t wait. Can I bring a guest?

    • Jeremy Verinsky says:

Vikrant- of course guests are welcome. Having friends around with common interests is what photowalks are all about.

  7. richard pool says:

How does one sign up for this walk?

    • Jeremy Verinsky says:

Richard- in the upper right corner of the map box is a button that says “Join This Walk” Hope to see you there.

  8. Meg Jensen says:

    I cant wait!

  9. John Strimaitis says:

There is no way I am going to miss this one. The venue is superb!

  10. John says:

Will haveto see if I am working that afternoon but would love to attend

  11. John Perera says:

I am having trouble signing up for the walk. It appears that I have signed up but it wont authenticate my username and password. Says my email address has already been taken. ? Can I just show up and attend without signing up?

  12. Sharon Fischer says:

Jeremy, what size lens do you recommend using for this walk. Better yet which lens are you planning on bringing?

    • Jeremy Verinsky says:

Sharon- bring whatever lens you want. That’s the idea behind a photowalk, is to maybe experiment and try something new. If you have never done a photowalk, you might bring a mid-range zoom, like an 18-135mm so you can capture a range of focal lengths. If you have done some before and are looking for a new challenge, try bringing a prime lens, like a 50mm and shoot exclusively with that. If you just got a brand new lens, maybe bring that and shoot with it for 2 hours. That should give you a good feel for how that lens performs and where it fits into your “arsenal.”

To answer your question about what I am bringing, I found last year that I don’t talk a lot of pictures when I am leading the walk. I spent a lot of time checking in with the walkers, answering questions and trying to make sure you all were having a good time. I will probably bring my G12 and just shoot with that.

Your gear doesn’t matter as much as having fun and maybe making some new friends. :) -Jeremy

  13. John Perera says:

    hmmm No Submit button yet.

    • Jeremy Verinsky says:

John- look where it says 3 days left in the yellow box. There’s a browse and upload button along with suggested file size. -Jeremy

      • John Perera says:

I don’t have a yellow box on this page. I am supposed to be on the Santa Cruz Walk page right? Where is the box?
