Photo Walk Description

Let’s enjoy the beginning of the Fall season with a walk through quaint Salem. We’re going to take advantage of the beautiful twilight and start the walk in the early evening. We’ll meet in front of Old Town Hall for a group photo at 5 p.m., then spread out in small groups exploring downtown. A map of suggested stops like the Corwin House, Ropes Mansion Garden and the House of Seven Gables will be provided. At 7 p.m we’ll reconvene at a Tavern in the Square – 189 Washington Street, Salem, MA 01970 to share our photos and enjoy the rest of the evening getting to know each other. Remember to wear your comfortable walking shoes and bring water. Please feel free to comment on this page as it will be checked regularly, and be sure to visit the day before the walk to see if any changes have been made to the itinerary.

PARKING – Parking will be a challenge due to the busy tourist season. Please research parking garages before your trip and plan to arrive early! Better yet, take the train! The Salem station is only a few blocks away from our meeting location.

MEETING SPOT – Look for tables and steps surrounding Old Town Hall, right across the street from Artist’s Row, on the side of the building facing Front Street.

SHARING PHOTOS – We now have a Flickr group to share our photos of Salem here! Please only add images taken this weekend. Remember that uploading images to this group is not your official contest entry; you need to submit them on this page.

RAIN – If the weather does not cooperate the evening of our walk, we will need to cancel because of safety precautions, BUT that shouldn’t deter you from heading over to Salem to take photos sometime during the weekend! If possible (and if there’s enough interest) the group outing will be rescheduled to Sunday morning at 8 am. The Flickr group will also remain open for you to share your favorite photos and the contest will not be cancelled, no matter what!

    Sadly it looks like the rain is going to keep us from having an organized photo walk this weekend. The forecast calls for 70% tonight and tomorrow is not looking good either, which is a real bummer. Because of safety concerns (both for you and your camera) our walk is cancelled.

    I WILL be keeping the Flickr group up and running should you find a dry time to make it to Salem and want to share your images. The contest will also remain open! If you’re not afraid of a little dampness, get out and take some photos and submit them! Water makes for some gorgeous photos. You have until 12:00 noon EDT October 7th to submit your best photo to the official Photo Walk contest.

    If you are still interested in getting together later this month for an organized photo walk, please email me at fresca@frescaphoto.com. I’m going to try to set something up if there’s enough interest.

    We will most likely meet at the Tavern in the Square (www.taverninthesquare.com) after our walk because of it’s ability to seat large groups of people. For those of you unfamiliar with Salem, the town is extremely busy during the entire month of October, so reservations may or may not be possible depending on our final headcount. Please be prepared to wait, and if you’d rather not, no hard feelings! There are many yummy restaurants in town if you’d like to venture out in smaller groups, and we will have the online photo gallery to share our photos.

    I plan to attend. I did my best to officially sign up, but the heavy security involved in setting up a PhotoWalk account may have thwarted me. That’s okay with me though, I’m not trying to win a prize.

    Too bad this was canceled, I was looking forward to giving this a try. Will you organize another?? Or do you have the map of the route you were going to walk? I’d love to still do this especially since Halloween is right around the corner and Salem is infamous for Halloween.
