Photo Walk Description

Sunday, October 2, 2011

Greetings to you all. I would like to welcome all you avid photographers to an exciting opportunity to explore the Laurentians at the peak of the Fall colours season. There are plenty of unique shops, boutiques and restaurants as well as people that will make for great street as well as architectural photography in Saint-Sauveur. There are also some events planned for that day (see below) that include a free outdoor concert and 14 art galleries. In addition, for those interested in shooting the great outdoors, you will have plenty of opportunity to take in the surrounding beauty of the Laurentians with its mountains, streams, lakes and trees.

We will be meeting in the parking lot of the Saint-Sauveur City Hall and then go on to explore the various offerings of main street Saint-Sauveur as well as other points of interest. Afterwards, we can take in the concert, have lunch at Brochetterie le Chalet Grec 138 Rue Principale (bring your own wine) and enjoy the afternoon as we discuss our photos with each other.

Events:
Concerts Rona Dagenais

Every week-end from mid-June to mid-October you just have to bring your patio chair and install yourself in the park Georges-Filion, near the church of St-Sauveur, to benefit from free concerts and shows. The complete programmation will appear soon.

La ruée vers l’Art

A whole week-end to discover the 14 Art Galleries of St-Sauveur.
The complete programmation is coming soon.

Check back to this site often as I will be updating it with more information.

  1. France Gagnon says:

Il y a un bon restaurant grec sur la rue Principale (bien meilleur que ce que l’on trouve sur Prince-Arthur à Montréal). On peut y apporter notre vin et il y aurait de la place pour 50 personnes.

  2. France Gagnon says:

There is a good BYOW Greek restaurant on rue Principale. It can easily accommodate 50 people.

  3. Peter Kelly says:

Merci France. I was planning to go with my wife tomorrow to check out the lay-of-the- land so to speak and see what some of the major points of interest are on rue Principale as well as other spots in and around Saint-Sauveur. What is the name of the Greek Restaurant?

  4. Marc Brault says:

My wife would like to register too but we can’t seem to be able to register both from the same computer.
    Help !!!

    • France Brault says:

      Problem solved :)
Just had to reboot the computer to empty all caches and everything went fine.
      See you on the walk.

  5. France Gagnon says:

The name of the restaurant is Brochetterie Chalet Grec.

Here is a link with a review:

There is also Sechuan at le Chrysanthème but is is more expensive and you can’t bring your own wine.

Stay away from Gibby’s it is overpriced and not that good.

If you need more suggestions, do not hesitate to send me an email.

    • Peter Kelly says:

It’s now official. We are meeting at Brocetterie le Chalet Grec after the Photo Walk. Bring your own wine. Thanks for the suggestion France Gagnon.

  6. ginette says:

Count me in for Oct 02nd,2011 ….

  7. Peter Kelly says:

I’VE SENT OUT EMAILS TO EVERYONE THROUGH THIS SITE. I HOPE THAT YOU ALL RECEIVED THEM.

REMEMBER YOU MUST CLICK ON JOIN THIS PHOTO WALK TO OFFICIALLY REGISTER FOR THE WALK. OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ANY UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION ABOUT THE WALK.

  8. France Gagnon says:

I was up in St-Sauveur this weekend. I think the colours will be nice this Sunday, not quite at their peak but almost.

  9. Peter Kelly says:

There’s only 4 days to go. Hope you are all prepared and ready for our Photo Walk. It looks like we’re going to have around 25 people so that will be a good showing with lots of photos to choose from (each person will be asked to submit their best 3 photos and one will be chosen to be entered in the contest) so Good Luck to you all!

A couple of words of advice: Try to be there at least 15 minutes (9:15am) before the official start of the walk; make sure that your camera has the right date and time configuration; Bring your favourite wine (to be savoured later at the restaurant); and bring your best smile.

I look forward to meeting you all on Sunday.

    Peter

  10. France Gagnon says:

Here is a map for City Hall according to the city web site:

    http://www.ville.saint-sauveur.qc.ca/nous-joindre.html

From the map, it looks to me as though when you take the 60 exit, you turn right at the end of the exit road.

Selon la carte, il semblerait que pour aller à l’hôtel de ville, il faut tourner à droite à la fin de la sortie 60.

  11. Peter Kelly says:

Thank you France for the map. I’d also like to make a correction. I was under the impression that participants could post three of their best images after the Walk
which is what they did last year. However, I have been informed that it is only one photo.

    Sorry for that,
    Peter

  12. Michael Estey says:

Are there some precise instructions on how to get there? None of these online maps give the same location twice, and the GPS isn’t finding it either…

I don’t really feel like driving around until I see someone I recognize!

  13. Peter Kelly says:

    Hi Everyone!

Just in case you get lost here are some directions: Take Autoroute 15 North; Get off at Exit 60; Turn left (Direction Saint-Sauveur); turn right onto Avenue Guindon; Turn left onto Rue Principale; Turn left on Place de la Mairie.

I’ve also made arrangements for the Mayor of Saint-Sauveur to greet us as well as a marching band and a Goodyear blimp (joke). If you still can’t find us my cellphone number is 514-262-7782.

The weather forecast is a little bit of everything (mix of sun, cloud and showers, temperature between 11 and 15 degrees Celsius). Dress accordingly. Don’t forget to bring your own wine and of course, your camera.

    See you all tomorrow!

    Peter

  14. Peter Kelly says:

Greetings to All You Brave Photo Walkers!

Brace yourself for the latest weather update: Temperature is forecast to be between 9 and 11 degrees Celsius tomorrow with a chance of rain. Hope you are prepared to dress appropriately and to have waterproof covering for your camera.

Look for me in the Goodyear Blimp! (joke)

    Peter

  15. Peter Kelly says:

    Greetings!

After careful consideration (the latest forecast is calling for rain all day and temperatures of only 9 – 11 degrees Celsius), I have decided to pull out of the Photo Walk scheduled for tomorrow morning in Saint-Sauveur. You are free to still participate if you wish and I will still select the best photo from all those submitted.

In the end I had to consider my health as the major reason for pulling out as I recently had a bout of pneumonia which was most probably caused by my stubborn refusal to not cancel another event (the Wikipedia Photo Hunting Day held in Montreal at the end of August) on the same day that the remnants of Hurricane Irene arrived!

Needless to say, I still had difficulty making this decision, but hope that you all understand and take a decision yourself that is safe and wise.

Perhaps next year we will have better luck with the weather. Until then, Happy Shooting.

    Peter

  16. Peter Kelly says:

I am pleased to hear that many of you chose to brave the wet and cold conditions and to do the Photo Walk in Saint-Sauveur. Congratulations!

I am passing on the information that I have received concerning the submission of images. I look forward to seeing your best images of the day.

    Thanks,
    Peter

  17. Gilles Desjardins says:

Hi Peter, I was able to load my image (1). How many can we download?

  18. Peter Kelly says:

Only one image is allowed unfortunately (I had previously thought it was three), but I stand corrected. Sorry about that.

  19. Peter Kelly says:

Please not…You have until 12:00pm (noon) EDT Oct 7th to submit your bet image. Here are the specifications:

The Error Codes that walkers were experiencing while trying to upload pictures on the Photo Walk pages – appears to be resolved. From Kelby Media Group, I received an email this morning with this info:

    NEW: Regarding File Size:

    1. Only ONE image per walker PER LOCATION may be uploaded
    2. It should not exceed 1000 pixels on the long side at a resolution of 72 dpi
    3. The Maximum file size permitted is 1MB

You can edit the image in any way you wish.

    Good luck!

    Peter

  20. Marc Brault says:

    Hello Peter
    I’ve just uploaded my image.
The Walk was really fun. Met some great people there.
However, it was so cold and damp that I ended up with a cold.
Was more than worth it, tough.

    • Peter Kelly says:

Marc, you were a brave soul indeed for having ventured out there on such a disagreeable day – and are paying the price, unfortunately. Hope you get better soon. Dare say I decided not to go for the same reason, to avoid getting sick again.

Glad you had a good time despite the cold, however.
