Photo Walk Description

Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

Last year we did the walk around Ohinemutu, starting and finishing at RAVE, so we thought this year we’d do something a little different.

This year we’ll meet in outside Pig & Whistle, at 4:15pm, and be ready to start our walk as close to 4:30pm as possible. We have a couple of options on the route we could take, but whichever way we go, we’ll head to the Government Gardens and/or the Lake Front, for some late evening and night shots. Hopefully we’ll have some of that amazing light that we’ve been seeing in the evenings. The sun is setting around 5:30pm at the moment, and it’s dark a bit after 6pm, so we should be able to get some night shots as well.

We’ll head back to Pig & Whistle after that, around 6:30pm, (or whenever we’ve had enough or need to warm up!) and have a drink, something to eat, and talk about our photos…or anything else we want to talk about.

What you’ll need for the photowalk:

Warm clothing, it’s winter after all.
Tripod
Torch
Umbrella or plastic bag for camera if the weather is a bit wet.
Your camera gear!

Keep in mind we will be walking at night, so it’s important to keep safe. Safety in numbers, and don’t let someone in the group become stranded by themselves in the dark.

Any feedback about those plans? Suggestions?

If the weather is wet, we’ll do the walk in town where it is more sheltered, but regardless of the weather the walk will go ahead.

  • Trouble registering?

I’ve had a couple of people email me and say they are having trouble registering. It seems you’re not alone, and it may be a browser issue. If you used IE6, can you try using Firefox or another browser and see if that works?

The forum is quite helpful for some answers, but doesn’t seem they’ve got the answer to this registration problem at this stage. I know I’m having trouble staying logged in and having to do things in a round-about way.

If you are unable to register, do contact me, and come along anyway. It means you won’t be able to enter the competition though, so I hope the site gets this registration problem solved for you all.

  • Flickr Group

I’ve created a flickr group for the walk, and you’re all welcome to use it if you want to share more images with us all.

Go to http://www.flickr.com/groups/1445337@N24/ and request an invite to the group and I’ll add you.

    See you tomorrow!

  • Almost Walking Time!

    Hi all

I’ve updated the walk, and look forward to seeing you all on Saturday. There is plenty of room for more people, so encourage people to come along. I’ve not set the route in stone, as I’m keen to have this as more of a democracy than a dictatorship, so we’ll see where exactly we want to head on the night. :-) It all depends on our winter weather, and our moods.

I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

    Ange

    Where to post the images?

    • Angela Field says:

I think that once the date rolls around that a link will come up on this page. I’ll set up a flickr group for them too, as I think you upload only your best image here for the competition.

    • Angela Field says:

I’ve checked the help & FAQ and I think there will be detailed instructions soon posted by the people running this whole thing.

I’m finding it a bit confusing, and think it’s because the info isn’t actually on the site yet.
