Photo Walk Description

Hi everyone…I hope you are looking forward to this years walk as much as I am! I am dillengtly working on putting together an a nice route with interesting things to photograph. So far, I have us starting at Veterans Park in Redondo Beach, then heading to the Pier, poking around the shops, arcade, fishing boats, heading North to the Marina area and then heading back on Harbor Drive to see the updated “Whaling Wall” mural.

Parking shouldn’t be an issue with the underground structure next to the park (by the pier). If you do park on the street, check all posted signs as tickets are pricey.

Be sure to wear comfy shoes (current route is 2 miles round trip), hat, water and sunscreen. I will walk the route myself by this weekend, and make any updates/changes as needed. Any questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Post Walk Update - Also sent as e-mail

Good morning everyone! As promised an email to update you on a few things. I am also posting this on the page as an update in case someone doesn’t get the email:

First and foremost… the CONTEST info.. shortened from the Q/A from the site itself.

    1. Turns out that only ONE (1) image maybe submitted for the contest portion.

    2. Up to 5 – FIVE per day to the Scott Kelby Flickr acct can be uploaded to share to the entire photowalk community at the following address:
    http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpw4/

    3. Deadline to upload image for contest is October 7. You’ll need to login to the site to upload the image as you created an account to sign up for the walk in first place!

    4. If you want to add images to share for the rest of our group, I created a flickr cacti (about time!)… here it is… Feel free to upload them at this url:
    http://www.flickr.com/groups/photowalk-rb/

It was great meeting everyone and I look forward to seeing everyones pictures!

Have a great week and keep pressing the shutter!

  • 26 Hours & Counting!

Morning Everyone… we are little over 24 hours before our walk. I am excited as many of you have just signed up and seem to be excited as well!

Just a reminder… Mr. Scott Kelby wants everyone to be aware of SAFETY FIRST!

That being said.. a few things to keep in mind during our walk..

    1. Be mindful of our surroundings.
    2. Nice day tomorrow, albeit earlier then some get up on a Sunday.. so RB Pier could be bustling with activity. Looking through the viewfinder takes a photographer out of what is currently going directly behind them!
    3. No climbing on railings for shots! (just my advice since I have 3 young children!)

Since there are now only 15 of us, assuming everyone shows up, we can pick a place on the pier to grab something to drink/eat. I do recall a few places where we will start, and I’ll make the announcement then.

Finally… it’s not a race or contest (per say) to finish fastest nor take the most images. It’s a walk.. to be with others who enjoy photography and walking and people!

    See everyone tomorrow!

  • 3 Little Items

Hi Everyone… hope everyone is excited and ready for our walk this Sunday. I just got back from checking out our route and have a few notes:

    1. Location to meet will be by the Flag Pole, as the Bandshell has been removed! Totally forgot about that! Funds are being raised to replace it and it was in bad shape.

    2. Parking will be easiest in the underground area, so that you pay upon leaving. This is versus putting money in a meter and not having change or forgetting etc. I don’t want people to get tickets!

    3. Also, in walking the route, I think we may have enough to see/photograph (some GREAT people watching this morning for me) vs trying to make it all the way to the Whale Mural at AES. We have a small group, so we can vote on it and play it by ear.

If the weather is anything like today, which is a beautiful day in Redondo Beach.. bring a hat, water and sunscreen!

Oh.. a 4th Item.. there are plenty of places to eat around the area.. we could circle back around and pick one. Like I mentioned we are only 10 at this point.

    Looking forward to Sunday!

    -Adam Silver

I’m a hobbyist. This is my first photo walk. Yay! I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and learning as much as I can.

Looking forward to it! Hope to make it to the whaling wall also, but depends on what everyone else wants to do.

  5. Emilio Andres says:

Thanks Adam for awarding me the best location photo. This was my third WWPW, so it must be true about the third time being the charm. I only snapped one shot to get this image, and lucky for me it counted. Thanks again for a memorable photo walk. BTW, I think you still should post your picture as our group leader. Take care.
