Photo Walk Description

The Nayong Pilipino is risen! Although not to its former glory as encapsulator of the Philippine tourist spots, the Nayong Pilipino has re-opened as an orchidarium and children’s park for residents nearby and those who remember educational trips from their school days.

As with my previous PNR Photowalk I would like to request all joiners to donate at least 1 good photo to the Nayong Pilipino in return for hosting the walk.

May I also remind those who plan to turn this into a prenup shoot, PLEASE DON’T. The Nayong Pilipino has very reasonable charges for prenups, so please do not turn this FREE walk into something that it isn’t.

Early registrants may notice that I have moved the meeting time to 7:00am. That is to give earlybirds time to shoot the greens at a time when they are most beautiful. You don’t HAVE to be there at 7:00am, I’m just saying early morning is much nicer for photos at the Nayon. I will be there at 6am onwards to catch the earlybirds. And yes, as in my previous photowalk (PNR, 2010) there will be giveaways for the first to sign up and show up, and first to arrive at venue :)

See you all soon! =D

    Leader News & Updates

  • By Bambit Gaerlan (0)
  • No-shows will be purged

Good news to all who walked the Nayong Pilipino last 01 OCTOBER — you will all be accommodated in the Top 50 and therefore become eligible to join the contest that Scott Kelby is running.

The bad news is the site seems excruciatingly slow these days and I am having a difficult time making the list come out so I can prune it.

But rest assured I will not stop until those who have actively shown their support for the Nayong Pilipino have earned their rightful place in the Top 50.

    Will keep everyone posted.

  • AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM WALK LEADER BAMBIT GAERLAN

Updates for Nayong Pilipino SKWW Photowalkers!

Typhoon Pedring is scheduled to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Wednesday, 28 September. So if all goes well and no other weather disturbance follows in his wake, it will be blue skies with a few clouds and possible occassional rains during the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk at the Nayong Pilipino.

I just got back from the finalization meeting with Nayong Pilipino together with Andy Rodriguez who is leading the parallel walk, and these updates I am about to share with you are very important. Please do take the time to read this email thoroughly.

The Official start time of the walk is at 7:00am. Walkers who live nearby may opt to come earlier to shoot at sunrise. There will be a 7ft*3ft tarpaulin banner at the Nayong Pilipino gates welcoming the walkers.

There will be directional signs for the walkers to follow. Walkers must proceed first to the Orchidarium Coffee Shop where the registration tables will be set up. WALKERS MUST REGISTER FIRST before taking any pictures. Each registered walker will be provided with a Photowalker ID courtesy of HGT Photography Team.

After a walker has registered he may go ahead and take pictures within the compound of the Nayong Pilipino.

Please remember the earlier admonition of not shooting in the direction of the airport. If the airport police spot walkers with cameras pointing towards the airport they can and will cross over to the Nayon and stop the Photowalk. So those of you who plan to sneak photos of planes taking off or taxiing at Terminal 3, please resist the urge to do so. You will be putting the entire walk at risk.

There is an additional admonition that we were informed of today, and this is shooting in the direction of the now PAGCOR controlled area of the Nayong Pilipino. If you know the history of this beleaguered park you will remember that a huge chunk of it is now in the custody of PAGCOR. WALKERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SHOOT IN THE DIRECTION OF THE PAGCOR CONTROLLED AREA. There will be guards at the PAGCOR perimiter fence and they will tell you it is not permitted to shoot. PLEASE HEED THEM.

At exactly 9:00am ALL WALKERS MUST CONVENE at the Orchidarium Coffee Shop (the registration area) for the awarding of prizes for first to arrive at venue and first to sign up and show up FOR BOTH walks. So there will be 4 earlybird prizes in all. There will also be a short slideshow presentation and talk by Atty. Apolonio B. Anota Jr., Director of the Nayong Pilipino Foundation. I sincerely feel that attendance to this presentation is a MUST especially for those who never knew the glory that was the Nayong Pilipino, and for those who want to remember what it looked like in its heyday. This will also be the time when all sponsors, participating clubs, and special guests will be acknowledged.

After the 9am program all walkers can again go around the grounds again and continue shooting. There will be food and drink FOR SALE at the Concession Area. I have heard good reviews about the food there, so please go there for your snacks and early lunch.

The photowalk will end at 12noon. If you wish to shoot beyond that time, it will be on your own accord and no longer part of the SK WWPW that I am supervising. Should anything happen to you after the photowalk published times, I claim no responsibility.

There will be more updates regarding the photo contest and how the submission of entries will be conducted.

But more importantly, I will need to reiterate my request for all walkers to submit AT LEAST ONE photo of their choice for use of the Nayong Pilipino. You must name your photo with your first name and last name, and dimensions must be no bigger than 1024 pixels in height and width.

Since I have made this request from the start, I must also say that if you submit an entry for the contest without submitting a photo for the Nayong Pilipino’s use, your entry to the contest will be invalidated, unless you specify that your contest piece is also your photo for the Nayong Pilipino.

This email has now become longer than I expected, but I feel I must make all the items above as clear as day.

Any questions — email me or use the CONTACT LEADER link on the walk page.

Thanks for your patience, and see you all on 1 OCTOBER at the Nayong Pilipino! =)

  • 5 days to Go!

Hello Nayong Pilipino Photowalkers! Don’t let Pedring get you down — forecast for Saturday 1 October is Sunny with a bit of cloud cover :) But as the D60KREW would put it, the walk will happen RAIN OR SHINE! :D

I am meeting with Nayong Pilipino Admin this afternoon at five for program and walk route finalization, so expect another email update either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Make sure you have your walk essentials ready — drinking water, towels, caps (jacket if it does rain), rain gear for your camera, very comfortable walking shoes.

Talk to you guys again soon :)

  • 22 Days and Counting!

Hello Nayong Pilipino Photowalkers! It’s less than a month to the 4th Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk! Excited na ba kayo?

I would like everyone to know that as long as you are on the list, Top 50 or the WAITLIST, YOU CAN COME AND JOIN US ON OCTOBER 1. The more, the merrier has always been true for me when it comes to photowalks. This only means more people will be aware that the Nayong Pilipino is still OPEN and will be beautiful again as long as it receives our support.

And with this call for support, I would like to reiterate my request that ALL PARTICIPANTS to submit at least 1 photo to me within a week after the Photowalk, and allow the Nayong Pilipino to use this photo as they see fit, with no remuneration expected. You will not be relinquishing ownership of the photos, you are merely allowing the Nayong Pilipino to use them. You may still enter the photo you submit in any other contest or endeavor.

If you do not agree with this request, I must ask you to pull out of the walk NOW. The Nayong Pilipino is in need of our help and this is the best way we as photographers can extend our assistance to this park.

    MORE UPDATES!!!

Since the Waiting List is now almost as long as the Main List, I think it’s ok to post SPONSORSHIP updates :)

The Top 50 List walkers WHO SHOW UP at the venue by 8am will definitely get FREE shirts from PIXEL PRO! Official walk start is at 7am, so by 8am we should have everyone who signed up present at the venue.

Other companies (suprise muna) have pledged prizes for:

    1. “First to sign up” so if JP Cabero shows up for the walk, he’s already got a prize waiting for him.
    2. “First to arrive at venue” a.k.a. “The Earlybird Prize” who can either be from the Top 50 list or the Waitlist, as long as that person is on either list.
    3. ALL walkers will get a walk souvenir — while supplies last. If we get less than 100 walkers, we should be ok ;)

There will be more giveaway announcements as soon as I get confirmation on the actual items to be provided by other sponsors.

It’s going to be fun, NP Photowalkers! See you soon!!!

  • ALL SYSTEMS GO!

Even at this early date, it is ALL SYSTEMS GO for the Nayong Pilipino SKWWPW!

Atty. Apolonio B. Anota Jr., Executive Director of the Nayong Pilipino, will welcome the Photowalkers and provide a short history of this historic park, quite helpful for those who have never visited it, and reminiscent for those who have seen it in its heyday.

    A few rules to remember:

    1. Since the Nayong Pilipino sits right beside the airport runways, Airport Police will be watching us. This is unavoidable. To help our endeavor we are advised to refrain from shooting towards the runway so as not to alarm the Airport Police.

    2. Photowalkers who decide to drive to the Nayong Pilipino MUST pay the 30 peso parking fee for cars/vans. I have posted a photo of the parking fees previous to this update for your guidance.

    3. There will be places at the Nayong Pilipino marked as NO ENTRY due to ongoing construction work. Photowalkers WILL HEED these signs for their own safety.

    4. The Orchidarium is a very delicate place — there may be a limit to the number of Photowalkers allowed into each enclosure to ensure that the orchids are not damaged. I’m sure you will all understand this.

    5. As earlier stated, I request ALL PARTICIPANTS to submit at least 1 photo to me within a week after the Photowalk, and allow the Nayong Pilipino to use this photo as they see fit, with no remuneration expected.

Any questions? Do write them down in the comment box below so that all may see them and the answers they may require.

  • For those who will be driving to the Nayong Pilipino

Note that there are parking fees if you decide to drive to the Nayon on the day of the Photowalk. I will try to negotiate free parking for photowalk participants, but I cannot make any promises right now.

For a sneak peek at the Nayong Pilipino, please visit this link:

    http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150335975713343.399868.550598342&l=64e6701734&type=1

UPDATE: Photowalkers who decide to drive to the Nayong Pilipino will have to pay the P30 parking fee. The fee is minimal and will help the Nayon with the maintenance and upkeep of the grounds. That is the ONLY fee you will be paying. Entrance itself to the Park is FREE.

  • How to get to the Nayong Pilipino

For the benefit of those who have not been to the Nayong Pilipino in Pasay or have forgotten how to go there — best way is still via BUS. Find your way to EDSA Southbound and then get on the bus with a MIA signboard. Most of them are nice new buses with very good air conditioning. Only the buses with the MIA signboard will take you all the way to the Nayong Pilipino gates, just before the Terminal 2 check point. You’ll need to cross the street to get to the Nayong Pilipino archway.

To get back to EDSA just take the same bus on the route that took you to the Nayon.

Hi everyone. I’ve received a couple of offers for sponsorship of our walk. Do you have any suggestions on what we could ask them for — note that they may not be able to grant what we want, especially if they have their own agenda … but it would be nice to hear your suggestions.

    • Bambit Gaerlan says:

UPDATE: The sponsor has proposed shirts for all 50 walkers to wear during the walk. Photo ops and an acknowledgement is what they want in return.

As some of you may know I’m open to having more than 50 walkers show up for the walk, but only the 50 registered can join the WWPW photo contest.

We know there’s two months to go before the walk itself, and there will be backouts and inevitable no-shows.

I would like to request those who later find out that they cannot make it, to take themselves off the roster to make room for the hopefuls on the waiting list.

      • Mark Anthony Morfe says:

Ms Bambit, may mga sizes po ba yung T-Shirt or limited lang po sya to Free-Size?

Once approved, anyone on the waiting list can relist themselves on Andy’s walk and they will be automatically removed from the waiting list here.

  28. Mark Anthony Sola says:
