Photo Walk Description

WELCOME:
I want you! That’s right, you! No experience required and no hidden fees. All you need is an interest in (or better yet a passion for) photography. I’m at it again this year and very excited to be taking part with so many other enthusiasts. Last year we had a great turnout and a fantastic walk. This year we’ve got a great location with a loads of interesting features to be discovered. With our new October date I think this venue will provide for an interesting and enjoyable walk.

LOCATION:
We’ll be moseying our way around some of Dow’s Lake and in through some of the arboretum trails. It’s a great venue with lots of waterfront, foliage and some nice details.

AFTER THE WALK:
Don’t miss this! This is one of my favourite parts of the walk. Plan to spend 2 or 3 hours with us as we’ll be getting together for some food and drinks at Malone’s in the Dow’s Lake Pavilion. This is a great time to share stories, laughs and sneak some peeks at others images. We laugh, we eat and we encourage each other as we share our view through the lens.

PARKING:
There is pay parking diagonally across from the Pavilion on Prince o f Wales / Queen Elizabeth Drive. This lot is right near our starting and ending point (it’s like it was planned this way or something).

RAIN DATE:
If it’s raining the day of our photo walk please check back here for updates. Sunday is our backup rain day.

HELP & SUPPORT:
Call your mom! Mom’s are the best! If she can’t help than check out the FAQ section.

CAN’T MAKE IT:
If you cannot attend this walk, or decide to attend a different walk, please make sure you remove yourself from this walk so someone waiting on standby can take your place.

  • Don't Miss It!

Hey gang! It’s only a week away. Time to format the cards, polish the lenses and put new laces in your sneakers. I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Don’t miss one of the best parts of our walk! Plan to join us afterwards at Malone’s in the Dow’s Lake Pavilion. It’ll be great to see some of your shots, grab so eats and get to know one another even better.

    • Dale Hogan says:

If you can see the map above look to the top right corner of the frame it sits in. You should see a button that says “Join this Walk” I hope that helps.

  17. natasha says:

    Hello!
I never participated in the Walk, how could i join at least the waiting list?
    many thanks!

    • Dale Hogan says:

      Hi Natasha,

If you can see the map above look to the top right corner of the frame it sits in. You should see a button that says “Join This Waiting List” I hope that helps.

  18. Rick Millette says:

    Hi Dale,

I am in a photography group and have numerous of people interested in the walk. Do you know if a second walk can be organized that day or if the the Sunday walk will take place?

  19. Dale Hogan says:

    Hi Rick,

In the past there have been at least a couple of Ottawa walks at different locations in the city, so a second different walk is certainly possible. Other leaders may create other walks and may choose to run them on the Sunday. I hope that helps.

    • Rick Millette says:

      Thanks Dale,

I have put in my requested to be a walk leader for the same day and time and
have it downtown. Thanks for your help. If approved I will remove my name from
your list. If not, see ya soon!

  20. Victor Rakmil says:

Looking forward to the walk. Still waiting to get an email confirmation. Probably messed up my gmail address. In any event hope this works.

  21. Kathy Desjardins says:

I would really like to do the Dows Lake walk, and if Mike G. drops out, I think I am the next one to move up….but just in case, I also signed up to another walk at another location. Hope this works out because I would really like to participate.

  22. Dale Hogan says:

One week to go, I can hardly wait! See you all soon!

  23. Chris Noakes says:

I’m a little late I know but if a spot opens up on this walk I’d love to join. Military just posted me in to Ottawa and, well I’m not so much of an urban type shooter as I am outdoor scenic work…

    • Dale Hogan says:

Hey Chris welcome to Ottawa! I see your name is on the waiting list. Just check back before the walk, log in and click the “View Attendee List” link to see if you’ve made the list. Hope to see you Saturday!

  24. Ryan St says:

Completely forgot about this…was expecting some sort of email reminder… :/ Left the walk, so someone on the waiting list should be happy :)

  25. David Stevenson says:

I’ve had to leave the walk as I’m not feeling well, coming down with a cold I think, and don’t want to pass it on to others. Hope to be able to do this next year and that someone on the waiting list will be able to take my spot.

    Have a great time!

  26. Steve Grant says:

I hope the weather will cooperate. I’ll be throwing some jumbo Ziplocs into my camera bag just-in-case.

  27. Mike Perkins says:

Dale, I was very disappointed to leave the walk tonight, but I have been quite ill the past few days (seems there is a bug going around at the moment) and I am afraid I will not be able to make it out tomorrow. I have held out as long as possible but only thought it was proper to free up my spot for someone else. I will look forward to getting out next year.

    Cheers,
    M.

  28. Nathalie Lamy says:

Hi Dale, I see there is room for the walk tonight. Can I bring my 11yr old son or is it 18 and over? Thanks, Nathalie

    • Dale Hogan says:

      Hi Nathalie,

Thanks for the question. The Walk FAQ’s say…
“Q: Is there an age restriction? Are children allowed to participate?
      A. While we do not have an age restriction, we thought it should be up to each walk leader to decide whether they want to allow children on their walk or not. Check with your leader to see if children will be allowed on their walk.”

I don’t really want to have to create a hard and fast rule about this with regard to a specific age. Every child is unique. My stipulation is that all walkers must be able to independently participate in the walk. That means they have their own camera and are involved in the walk process without need of continual assistance from anyone. Also, please keep in mind that the group is comprised mainly of adults to my knowledge.

  29. Chris Noakes says:

Hi Dale, hopefully I catch you…

For someone new to the city can you tell me where exactly I should be meeting you. If I google directions to Dow’s Lake it takes me to the other side of the lake from Malone’s and the Arboretum (which doesn’t seem right)… so I just want to make sure I’m going to be standing in the right place lol.

If I go to the Dow’s Lake Pavilion area will I be in the right place to meet everyone?

    • Dale Hogan says:

      Hi Chris,

The Pavilion does indeed put you in the right area. As above, please meet at the North East Corner of Preston and Queen Elizabeth Drive.

      • Chris Noakes says:

Seen. I missed the part of the page where is said corner of Preston and Queen Elizabeth (my apologies), I was reading location under the description. Thanks, see you soon…

  30. Kathy Desjardins says:

Hi Dale….had a wonderful time! I would love to do more of this type of activity, so when I get back from vacation, I will be looking you up? Thanks again for organizing our group and for your wonderful upbeat personality :)

  31. Steve Grant says:

Thanks to Dale for organizing and attendees for making my first photo walk something to remember. It was great!

  32. Dale Hogan says:

Hey Gang! It was such a blast to meet and walk with all of you. Thank you so much for coming out and making our walk so fantastic!
