Photo Walk Description

Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

It’s 2010 and we’re at it again! Welcome to the downtown Ottawa photo walk. For those of you retuning, it’s great to have you back. For those of you who are new, welcome, I look forward to meeting each of you.

Downtown Ottawa offers diverse opportunities for your shooting pleasure. It’s got some old, some new, some natural and some man made. We’ll be taking in the hill, some waterway, the market and much more. Stay tuned for updates as I finalize the route.

First and foremost this is a social event and the real joy of the walk is making new friends and sharing your passion for photography. We really want you to hang out after the walk with us and grab a bite & a brew. The times listed above include some time at the pub. We’ll be walking for about two and a half hours then we’ll move the party indoors. Please join us! More details to come about where.

Last year we brought the joy of photo walking to Stittsville. If you want to check out some of the images you can find them on Flickr here http://www.flickr.com/groups/1151257@N20/

If you can’t make it to our afternoon session 5pm, then check out Justin’s walk. He’s back for another year of phenomenal photo walking. His morning session runs from 10am till noon. http://worldwidephotowalk.com/walk/ottawa-division-on-ca/

  • If You Can't Make it.

Something unexpected has happened and you can’t make it to the walk. Bummer! We’ll miss ya! Before you head out on your urgent mission please remove yourself from the walk. If you’re not sure how, we’ve got you covered. You can find instructions here http://worldwidephotowalk.com/2010/07/how-to-leave-a-walk/

With a number of people still on the waiting list your efforts will be deeply appreciated. Thank you!

  • Last Minute Details

Well, it’s only hours away and we’re excited to photowalk with all of you who are signed up! Thanks so much for taking part this year, I know we’re going to have a great time.

    PARKING:
A quick word on parking. The downtown can be busy on the weekend and parking shouldn’t be something that creates frustration or stress. My suggestion is that you park in the underground parking at the Rideau Centre where our walk will be ending. Be prepared to pay for parking. Last weekend when I was there it cost me about $6 for two hours.

    AFTER PARTY:
This year we’re hitting “The Exchange” (formerly known as “The Elephant & Castle”) in the Rideau Centre. You can check them out online at www.theexpub.com We want all of you to join us at The Exchange for what will be a fantastic time of lively laughter, fabulous food and unforgettable memories. We’re aiming to arrive at the pub/restaurant for approximately 7:30 pm Our Reservation is under Dale Hogan

NOTE: Even though I suffer from “Man Brain” see how I worked it out so that we’d end up right were you parked (if you follow my suggestion for parking above) after the walk. :~)

    WAITING LIST:
If you are on the list and can’t make it PLEASE sign in and remove yourself from the list. I have no control over registrations and there are others on the waiting list. Thanks for your help with this.

    ROUTE MAP:
Wondering where we’re going? Don’t worry, we’ll be providing everyone with a map at the beginning of the walk. Some of our route is on paths and not roads so Google maps above wasn’t cooperating, but we’ve got you covered here http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3902787

THINGS YOU MIGHT NOT THINK OF:
We want you to have the best experience possible and to that end here are a few things that may help to make your walk a go little smoother.
-Wear comfortable, protective & supportive footwear.
    -Bring plenty of water along.
-Sunglasses, sunscreen & a hat can make your walk much more enjoyable.
-Depending on the types of shots you’re after, your mono or tripod may come in handy.
-Extra memory card(s) or roll(s) of film, cause you never know.

We are two couples coming to Ottawa, my husband will accompany me on the walk but will not have a camera or be shooting! Is this okay? Do I need to sign him up anyways????

Something that just popped in to my head… sing to the tune of “Saturday here in the Park”

    Saturday, Photo Walk
It’s on the Twenty Fourth of July
    Saturday, Photo Walk
It’s on the Twenty Fourth of July
    People shooting, crazy pictures
    A man falling over
    Screaming something profain

Are you going (Yes, I am)
And we’ve been waiting such a long time
    For Saturday
    Saturday, Photo Walk
Ya know it’s the Twenty Fourth of July
    Saturday, Photo Walk
Ya know it’s the Twenty Fourth of July
    People smiling for a portrait
    A man playing guitar
    Posing for us all
Take his picture to show the world
Won’t you join us (Yes I will)
And we’ve been waiting such a long time
    For this day!
