Photo Walk Description

Greetings everyone! My name is Carmen Lee and photography is my passion. I’m back again this year with Michael Jardeen, Pro Photographer from Tacoma who will be joining me as lead. Thanks to all who came from afar making a great Photowalk last year. Im excited to meet you at this years premium location at the Nisqually River Delta in southern Puget Sound offering Three thousand acres of salt and freshwater marshes, grasslands, riparian, and mixed forest habitats provide resting and nesting areas for migratory waterfowl, songbirds, raptors, and wading birds making a premium location for wildlife/nature photography. We will start our journey on the West side Two Barns loop making our way to the Nisqually River Overlook and then over to the East Side trail as time permits. There is a $3 fee per group of 4, DONT let this stop you from joining us! Depending on how many people sign up/show I have membership and may be able to help those out who need financial assistance if needed. Dress weather appropriate and confortable walking shoes. Please check out the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge web site for location details. Come join us for a great day of excitment and delight for all ages and levels of photography! Hot Cocoa anyone……

Do you remember me tagging along last year? I have been practicing and am looking forward to joining in the fun again. Thanks so much for your help and encouragement. : )

  2. Patricia L Walker says:

Carmen, Hi! Thanks for being one of the intrepid leaders of this walk! I didn’t get to go last year, but my husband and I would love to join in with all of you for this walk. Could you put us down for 2 people? His name is William (Bill) O. Walker, Jr. Thank you!!

    • Patricia Walker says:

Oh – Carmen I just found the place to click on Join this Walk – so I registered there. I’ll have my husband do the same! Thanks. See you then.

  3. Johnathan Lyman says:

I am very much excited to participate in this walk. This is my first walk and I chose this one to get away from the city and enjoy nature.

  4. Paula Varner says:

Last year was fun. Nisqually is a great choice for this year!

    • carmen Lee says:

Hi Paula, Indeed, Lots to shoot at this location! I hope 2 1/2 hours will be enough!
Looking forward to seeing you again…
      Carmen

      • Paula Varner says:

        Hi Carmen
I see there is a group in Gig Harbor. Driving past the JBLM has become a bottleneck nearly every time these days. So, although I do love the area you’ve chosen, I think I’ll go across the Sound instead of to the bottom of it this time. I know everyone who joins you will have a great experience!

  5. Rosemarie Bleich says:

Do you know if we need any special parking permits since this is a national park?

  6. Sandra Walton says:

I would like to be part of this Photo walk

  7. clinton ferrara says:

I have a Natl Park Senior Pass that will get myself and three others into the park.

  8. Carmen Lee says:

Greetings my friends, the countdown is here just 6 days away! Hopefully you have had a chance to check out at Nisqually Natural Wildlife Refuge Web site.

**After the official Photowalk all participants are invited to the:
Nisqually Bar and Grill just minutes away.

They have a fabulous menu and food, take credit cards and is wheelchair accessible. Adult beverages are available and children under 18 are welcome in a open combined seating area. Check them out if you like….

**a Flickr group site is now available “”WWPW Tacoma 2011″ thank you Michael Jardeen for getting this up for us!

** Should be an exciting day, come dressed for the weather, bring an umbrella and if you have binoculars they are highly recommended and yes we will bring the hot cocoa!

  9. Darlene Liddick says:

I think I was successful in registering, Carmen. See you Saturday. Darlene

  10. Carmen Lee says:

Yes you are now on the list. Looking forward to seeing you too, will be an interested day!

  11. Teresa C says:

** Carpool as a rider request ** on 10/1 (This coming Sat.)

I’ll be glad to share the gas expense. If you can leave your email address, I’ll contact you directly to discuss the deatils (meeting time and location)

    My suggested carpool location:

Issaquah Transit Center. Easy access to I90
There are a lot of parking spaces.
    http://www.soundtransit.org/Rider-Guide/Issaquah-TC.xml

Please note Issaquah Transit Center would be my first preference.
However, I’d consider the following two locations as well if it’s not convenient for you to meet at Issaquah TC

    Bellevue East Gate Transit Center

    or

    Newport Hills P&R – Exit 9 – 405
    5115 113th PL SE
    Bellevue, WA 98006

  12. Carmen Lee says:

Carpool; you meet us in Tacoma at the Tacoma Dome Parking lot for pick up if you can make it South. You might be able to take Sound Transit to Tacoma Dome from your location, but call first to verify routes and times. Unfortunatley will not be able to come to Bellevue. I only have space for only for 1 more person.

    • Teresa C says:

Sound Transit train does not run on Sat and Sunday.
Also, I am not familiar with Tacoma area at all.
If I decide to join you guys this Sat., I’ll meet you at
100 Brown Farm Rd NE, Olympia, WA

  13. Michael Jardeen says:

We need more people to sign up on the Flickr page — this is how entries will be placed for the contest. You can also post up to 10 images there of your favorites.

  14. Frank Bergess says:

    Camen,
This would be my first Photo Walk with this group.
I have signed in/up. Do I need to do anything to add my Wife and Daughter?
I live just past the top of the Nisqually Hill and haven’t been to the reserve
for years! Am excited for the opportunity to meet others and learn.
    THANKS
    – Frank Bergess
    Olympia, Wa

    • Carmen Lee says:

Great Frank, glad to have you! If your wife and daughter want to enter the photo
contest they must sign-up as registered partipants. If they just want to come along to enjoy the wonderful scenery and for a bite after the walk, that is fantastic!!

      • Carmen Lee says:

Hi Frank and Family, looking for your daughters photos, even though she cant be in the contest Id still like to see them. It was a joy meeting your family and hope you enjoyed your walk!

  15. Carmen Lee says:

I need a count of how many of you are planning on going to the Nisqually Bar and Grill after the photowalk… please

    • Patricia L Walker says:

Yes, Carmen, I think both my husband and I will join in after the walk. That is if we’re not totally drenched and wet. We have no real rain gear but we’re going to do what we can to stay dry if it rains tomorrow!! ;-)

    • I plan to enjoy food, conversation and chimping after the walk at the local bar and grill.

  16. Carmen Lee says:

The big day is upon us…a couple of things to remember: first have fun…

    1) dress weather appropriate and remember to come prepared for sprinkles. Plastic bag to cover any equipment should it rain, an umbrella, binoculars and any accessories like those extra charged batteries.

    2) We will meet in covered pavillian area of the Visitor Center

    3) Meet at the Nisqually Bar and Grill after the Photowalk, the Refuge closes at 4pm

    See you all tomorrow…..

  17. Carmen Lee says:

and lastly…. the carpool is full. I have confirmed with those that I will be Carpooling with me. If I have not verified pick up time with you personally, we will see you at the Photowalk location. This is a family event, so all are welcome.

**Those who wish to enter the photo contest must be registered participants.**

  18. Frank Bergess says:

    Carmen,
Thanks for the reply. We will be there unless the weather
Gets to bad. Look forward to the fun. :0)
    Frank & Family

  19. Michael Jardeen says:

Bring garbage bags — great for putting over your gear as you walk around. No one has called me [253-312-1919] about carpooling so I unless I hear from someone I will be heading straight down there. Please join the Flickr group if you want to enter the contest: http://www.flickr.com/groups/2011wwpw-tacoma/

There is a covered area at the main building for dry shooting if the weather gets bad.

    See you there!

  20. Carmen Lee says:

    Last Call;

Dont be discouraged to join us because of the clouds and sprinkles, they offer many fantastic photographic opportunities. The ever changing landscape, the water reflections, the frogs and varied wildlife, the sunburst through the clouds and waterdrops on plant life, the arrival of Falls and the array of colors the abundance of natural and serene environment is one that will bring you back againa and again.
