Photo Walk Description

Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

I am Ray Casbourn, photographer of more than 50 years. I will be your Photo Walk leader here in Ogunquit, Maine. The 2nd annual Photo Walk for Ogunquit (3rd Annual World Wide Photo Walk). The Meadowmere Resort has provided all Photo Walkers with complimentary coffee before starting the walk. For those wishing to register at the resort the day before the walk, the Meadowmere Resort has provided all Photo Walkers with a substantial saving for a room (bear in mind that it is high season). All you have to do is mention that you are a Photo Walker by phone or at the front desk and you will be granted the special price. After meeting and coffee in the lobby area, we will be walking towards the ocean and the Marginal Way from the Meadowmere Resort (point of departure and using Obeds Lane). The Marginal Way is a walking path that leads to Perkins Cove where fishing boats are anchored. While we walk on this beautiful walking path among the rocks and the little beaches (provided the tide is low) by the sea, I will try to answer all your questions and guide you to the best photo spots, although bear in mind that this is a Photo Walk and not a workshop. After the walk, we will be stopping for breakfast and/or coffee (to be determined, around 09:00 a.m.). You may want to share your best capture of the walk with your fellow walkers during breakfast. After the walk (and not necessarily on the same day), you may submit to me 2 of your best pictures from the walk and I will choose the winner of our group which I will then submit to the World Wide Photo Walk 2010 of Scott Kelby for the winner of some very cool prizes for the best captures from around the world. Come be a part of the Photo Walk and make history with your pictures.
Of course, bring a bottle of water, possibly some sun protection and good walking shoes. Always be careful and courteous of the other Photo Walkers and don’t take any chances. We want this Photo Walk to be a safe walk for everyone. The Welcome Center has provided all walkers the permission to park your car during the Photo Walk. It’s within walking distance to the Meadowmere Resort just down the hill and up past the Squire Motel (part of the Meadowmere).

looking forward…. do you suggest making reservations ASAP seeing this time of year is high season???? I am unfamiliar with the amount of tourist influx vs. available lodging…thanks.

  2. Ray Casbourn says:

    Good morning Carolyn,

Welcome to the World Wide Photo Walk 2010 in Ogunquit, Maine. You don’t win a prize but you’re the first person to register for the Photo Walk this year.

As you mention, July 24 is right in the peak season for Ogunquit and the Meadowmere Resort. As a Photo Walker, may I suggest, if you would like to stay before or after the Walk, to book at your earliest convenience. Don’t forget to mention the Ogunquit Photo Walk and you will automatically get your special price. It is early yet but if you can reserve now then I would suggest that you do it.

Thanks for registering for the Photo Walk. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.

See you at the Walk Carolyn.

    Ray – Photo Walk leader.

I’m planning on driving up Friday after work and then staying until Sunday ! Might as well stop and smell the roses while there ! And hoping you can direct me to the “unique” Maine vistas….(yeah, I’m already anticipating picking your brain for neat locales….)

  3. Chris says:

Hi, Ray. Glad to see you’re giving Ogunquit another shot this year, after last year’s heavy rain washout.

I haven’t committed myself yet — I want to wait and see what locations pop up — but I love that area, and I’d say there’s a good chance I will make the trek up and join you (and hopefully be able to capture the sunrise this time!).

    Chris

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Good morning Chris,

Nice to hear from you. I haven’t forgotten last year’s wash out. But, I’m confident that this year will make up for it.
You can always register and if you decide not to come then take your name off the list. I don’t know what’s happening but this year number of people registering for the Walk here is incredible. So far 22 people have signed up and they’re not even people from last year’s!!!
I hope we can meet this time and possibly you’ll get another mention. I hope you’re shooting a lot and hope to see you then.

Thanks for writing. (you can write me anytime).

      Ray

  4. Peter Tetreault says:

Ray, We love the area. Go to the area several times a year. Look forward to the walk.
We are calling for reservations NOW!

    See you there,
    Peter Tetreault
    Foxboro, MA

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Hi Peter,

Thank you Peter for registering at the Meadowmere Resort. They have confirmed to me your reservation.
Since you’re a frequent visitor of Ogunquit, then I don’t have to sell you the area. You know about and of it and since you’re here often, there has to be a very good reason, you love the place as much as I do. I’m sure that those who have never set foot in Ogunquit, will fall in love with it as much as you and I and a lot of other people have.

Glad you could make it. Welcome aboard and looking forward so seeing you on July 24 at or about 05:15 a.m. (you won’t have far to go). We leave at 05:30 sharp.

      Thanks again for joining.

      Ray

  5. Lola Lawrence says:

Now I’ve signed in to join this wonderful location for the 3rd walk but not sure I got in.

    Lola35mm@cfl.rr.com

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Hi Lola,
Sorry for the delay in responding. Yes I have received confirmation and you are truly registered.

Welcome aboard. Looking forward to seeing you at the Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit, Maine on the morning of saturday July 24 at or about 05:15 a.m.

      Ray

  6. Ron Risman says:

Loving the start time! Finally, an early bird leader :-)

    • meghan w says:

I read through his info letter twice and didnt see start time. Bfast is around 9 but when would we head out? I would be driving down from Cape Eliz….

      thanks M

      • Ray Casbourn says:

        Hi Meghan,

I am asking that people be here at the Meadowmere Resort for the start at 05:15 (I believe I posted that time). We will start the Photo Walk at 05:30 sharp. Hope you can make it for that time.
Why so early? To catch the sunrise possibly (a few minutes late actually) and the early morning light. On the Marginal Way, it’s the best time of the day.

        See you there.

        Ray – Photo Walk leader

  7. Steve M. says:

Hello Ray … I look forward to meeting you and participating in the Photo Walk. I’ll be in Portland that week and the Ogunquit walk is easier to attend than going back to MA to walk.
    Steve

  8. Ray Casbourn says:

    Hi Steve,
Same here. Glad to have you aboard for the Photo Walk. Hopefully it’s going to be a gorgeous day. The Walk is filling up fast and it’s only June 4….
    See you there.

    Ray

  9. Marjie says:

    Hello Ray,
My friend Sue signed us up for the Photo Walk and I am so excited. I love this area and my husband and I spent our honeymoon weekend there over 30 yrs ago. This is going to be fantastic!! Thank you so much for making this available!!!

    Marjie

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Hi Marjie,
Welcome aboard the Ogunquit Photo Walk. I’m sure you and your husband will love it even though it’s pretty early in the morning. But, then again, it’s the best light of the day for the walk on the Marginal Way.

Thank you for registering and I will see you both at the Meadowmere Resort for 05:15 a.m. The walk will start at 05:30 sharp. As I’m sure you know by now, the Meadowmere as provided all walkers with complimentary coffee in the lobby before the start.

      Ray – Photo Walk leader

  10. Hello,

I am a novice photographer at best but last year (rain and all) I participated in the PhotoWalk in Portsmouth and had a wonderful time. Is there any chance I could participate in the PhotoWalk in Ogunquit and then head down to Portsmouth or do you think I would be cutting it a little too close with the 9:30am start in Portsmouth?

    • Ray Casbourn says:

Hi and welcome to the Ogunquit Photo Walk.

It is a pleasure to have you for the walk. If you want to participate in both walks that’s up to you. The only thing is that only the pictures of one walk will be eligible to submit to the World Wide Photo Walk of Scott Kelby and you will have to decide which one you prefer to submit your pictures of. Also, at the end of the walk in Ogunquit, we are all going for breakfast at the Amore Breakfast restaurant which should be around 09:00 a.m. but you never know, it might go to 09:30. If it does (and even at 9h) that gives you so very little time to make it to Portsmouth although it’s not too far. But I doubt you can make it. I gues it’s up to you which one you would like to attend but I think you will have a choice to make. But, that’s my opinion. If you prefer Portsmouth, no problem. If you prefer Ogunquit, all I can say is welcome.
      Thanks for writing.
      Ray – Photo Walk leader.

  11. Peter P says:

Ray, Still trying to register. Tried this page as well as the main page and every time I get a ” Done with errors message” Last time I checked you had room for 22 and that # hasn’t changed. Are other people getting registered or are you getting the same feedback from folks? Peter

  12. Ray Casbourn says:

    Hi Peter and good morning,

I am still trying to get in touch with the team (no phone). Like you, some people cannot register and others can!!!!!!!!!! I can’t answer you, unfortunately, about what is wrong with the registration page. Yesterday, I had one more person registered but I hadn’t had one since saturday. So, it’s possible others are having the same problem that I don’t know about. So far this morning, there’s still room for 21 more people. All I can say at this time is to try again like maybe early in the morning when not too many people are using the site (but then again, it’s later in the day in Europe or Asia so….). It’s possible that the site is overloaded which is why it crashes somehow. If I get information, which I probably will get soon, I’ll let you know ASAP. Keep trying Peter, when I get the confirmation from the Main site that you’re in, I’ll let you know also.

Thanks for trying and I’m very sorry about all the trouble.

Take care and sincerely hope to see you at the walk.

    Ray – Photo Walk leader.

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Good morning Peter,

If you see this message, I believe that the registration on my page as been fixed. Go to my page and click on the yellow button ”click here to register”.
Let me know if it works and of course I’ll get a confirmation from the team also.

Good luck and sincerely hope I can see you there again.

Thanks, have a great father’s day.

Ray – Photo Walk leader – Ogunquit Photo Walk

      • Ray Casbourn says:

Sorry Peter. The yellow button says ”Join this photo walk”.
        Sorry about that. My mistake.

        Ray

  13. Sandy Belanger says:

    Hello Ray,

This will be my first time joining any Photo Walk and am looking forward to it. I have a friend that I would also like to register that plans to attend with me with no internet access at this time. How would I go about registering her?

    Thank you, Sandy

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Good morning Sandy,

Glad to have you in the group for the Ogunquit Photo Walk.

I am not sure about this Sandy. But I believe you can register her name in the same manner that you have registered yourself except put her name on the form.
Try this and let me know if it works. As usual though, I will get a confirmation from the team at WWPW when he or she is registered.

Thanks for participating and good luck with the Photo Walk. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the experience. Good luck with registering your friend also.

Ray – Photo Walk leader – Ogunquit Photo Walk.

  14. Sharon Beane says:

Thank you for your reply, Ray. I was able to register my friend this evening. I am guessing that my internet connection must have been not letting me go further.
We are looking forward to attending this event. See you there!
    Sandy

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Hi Sharon,

My pleasure. Glad you were able to register your friend. Some of the bugs on my page were fixed by the staff of WWPW and I’m guessing that it cured the problems people we’re having.
Anyway, I also look forward to meeting you both at the Meadowmere Resort. I will greet you and your friend (earlier than 05:15 if you can) with coffee provided by the Meadowmere for all of you Photo Walkers. If you come by car, I will send out information about where to park but so far I’m hoping for the Chambers at the Welcome Center (not far up the road and within walking distance to the Mere) to provide all of you with free parking again this year.

Very happy you could join. See you there Sharon, (a month from tomorrow).

Ray – Photo Walk leader – Ogunquit, ME.

  15. Michael Browning says:

Just registered, I’m looking forward to the walk, I photograph in the area every week, this will be a great treat for the walkers attending

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Hi Michael,

Yes, it should be a treat for everyone. I’m sure everybody will like the walk and should take some incredible pictures.

Let’s hope for at least an honorable mention and (why not) the Grand Prize from someone from the group.

      Glad you could join.

      Ray – Photo Walk leader.

  16. robyn gallant says:

I notice yours is meeting way earlier than the Portsmouth one. Am i allowed to sign up for two walks?

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Hi Robyn,

Yes, you could sign up to two walks but, the images that you submit would have to come from one of the walk, not both. Otherwise, you would be disqualified by the organizers.

Glad to have you as part of the Ogunquit Photo Walk.

Ray – Photo Walk leader – for Ogunquit, Maine

  17. carolyn says:

WOOO HOOOO… reseravations are made and confirmed… will be staying an extra day and hope to pick your brain about the places to go, things to see, things to shoot !!!!! I AM SO EXCITED !!!!

    Carolyn Dykas
    Rhode Island .

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Hi Carolyn,
Glad you can make it. The reservations will be appreciated by the Meadowmere I’m sure, and you’ll be glad you did also.
Pick my brain hey! lol You’re welcome to it (I think). I am excited that you could make it and look forward to meeting you.
It is suppose to be warm if not hot on both days.

      See you Saturday.

      Ray

  18. Steven Perlmutter says:

    Ray,

Will we be allowed to park at the Meadowmere if there is space, or is the Welcome Center the only option? Thanks.

    -Steven

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Hi Steven,
Unless you’re a customer of the Meadowmere Resort, the Welcome Center is, the only option and it’s free. This is the best I could do for the all the walkers and I owe the Chambers of Commerce a big thank you for providing the space. The Meadowmere do want to keep their parking spaces for their customers only. But, as I mentioned, the Welcome Center is within a short walk by route 1 (or Main street) to the Meadowmere.

Thanks for writing and see you Saturday.

Ray – Photo Walk leader – Ogunquit, Maine.

  19. Ray Croteau says:

Ray, is the Welcome Center north or south of the Meadowmere? I thought it was just north of the Playhouse on Route 1 but Google shows the Chamber office at 36 U.S.1 which is way north of the Meadowmere, past Beach St. Thanks and look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

    • Ray Casbourn says:

      Hi Ray and welcome,

The Welcome Center is south of the Meadowmere by just a few hundred yards and next (north) to the Playhouse. It’s sort of sandwiched between the two.

Looking forward to seeing you also on Saturday.

      Best regards,

Ray (Casbourn) – Photo Walk leader – Ogunquit, ME.

  20. Lani Giguere says:

Can’t wait. Everybody bring your rain gear for yourself and your camera! See you all tomorrow!

  21. Sandy Belanger says:

Hi Ray, Had a really great time at photo walk, thank you so much for being a great leader!
I am having a problem, I had registered and after that registered a friend, when I try to get on, I can only get on the site with her user ID and password, have forgotten mine!
Would like to follow up after the walk but can’t seem to locate any of the info I should be able to find! Help! lol – Sandy

  22. Ron Risman says:

    Hi Ray.

Is there a Flickr group for the Ogunquit Photo Walk?

    Ron

    • Ray Casbourn says:

No not yet. Check out the group shot on my Facebook page. Some of the images of the walkers and the group shot is there. To see all the pictures submitted by the walkers, you’ll have to wait until the uploading time is finished (31st.) and then you’ll be able to see all the images of everyone.
Upload your images in the Ogunquit Photo Walk page the same way you registered for the walk.
      Thanks
      Ray

  23. Robert Vincent says:

Ray, how do I upload more than one photo?

  24. Mark Ruppert says:

We had some really great photos from our walk.
Congratulations to Lola for the winning local entry.

    - mark -

  25. lolalawrence says:

Thanks Mark.. what fun huh? It wasn’t so easy considering the heavy fog but our walkers were great and I’m honored that my photo was chosen to represent us.. Lola
