Photo Walk Description
Like most downtown photowalks, historic structures are in store. We will tour about some of Ocala’s oldest structures. Many of these were built (or re-built) after the Thanksgiving Day fire of 1883. The path should bring us past some of the historic homes in the area as well as Tuscawilla Park and the Ocala Train Station. The southern end of Magnolia Avenue’s Miracle Mile presents some older industrial/commercial area including the Sovereign Building (Ocala National Bank), Ocala’s tallest structure.
I can’t say it will be the most picturesque photowalk of the weekend, but it is an interesting look at Ocala’s Downtown area. There is a mix of old, new, pretty, and ugly. Plenty of people on the square and a Farmer’s Market, so it should provide varied subject matter.
I’m no tour guide, but I can give you my perspective as a firefighter for the City of Ocala and small nuggets of info from having seen the interiors of so many of the structures.
I’ll try not to move too slowly or to set the pace either. Everyone has a different pace, or will shoot more/less along the way. Feel free to spread out and we will all reconvene at Starbucks on the Square or depending on the size of our group, we may adjust our meeting place as the date draws near.
**Parking downtown can be limited, but shouldn’t be out of hand on a Saturday morning.**

Are you doing this walk on Saturday only? My family and I do not return to Ocala until Saturday night (there are 7 of us). Would love to do the walk but Sunday is our only available day. Thanks for even considering this!!
Judith
I wish I could, but unfortunately I’m on duty Sunday (10/2/11) and not available to lead that day.
Christopher, I signed up for your walk, my family will also sign up but we will be there on Sunday only. If this is OK the Steadman crew will sign up. Thanks again. Hope to see you!!!
Just noticed that the Google map that the system created is pretty hard to see on the the initial page. It also looks like it has a few bugs/glitches in it after zooming in. I’ll be posting a better route description in the Flickr Group for this walk shortly.
Just a reminder that the deadline for submitting photos to the PhotoWalk Contest is fast approaching (Oct. 10).
Where do I post the walk photos?
