Photo Walk Description

Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

Last year we started at the state park up near the N. side of the bridge. This year I thought we’d start down by the Port of Newport. I have had success in the past getting beautiful pictures of the bay with the morning sun over my left shoulder. From the meeting location, we can proceed to the E. and take pictures of the boats in port, etc., or we can walk W. and get shots on the bay front. This should be a more level walk than last year’s. :-)

  • Less than a week away ...

    Just a reminder: the photo walk is this coming Saturday, from 8 to 10 AM. I think the map gives enough information for you all to realize where we’re meeting. It’s at a sort of observation deck there on the East end of the Newport bay front.

    A friend of mine who went on last year’s photo walk (and who is scheduled for Saturday’s, as well) suggested that we go right down to the boats & docks to get some unique pictures. I had much the same thought and hope that we can do this safely and without ruffling anyone’s feathers. However, this plan is not set in stone, so if you have ideas, be sure to speak up when we first meet.

    I wanted to talk a bit about lenses, for those of you who are shooting with DSLRs or other interchangeable-lens cameras: Last year I hauled along my bag with two more lenses than the one that was on my camera. For a short time, I did put on my 70-300mm zoom, but found that I did not use it for long. Another participant brought a medium zoom, as well as his 10-20mm wide-angle zoom. He did use both and kept the unused lens in his jacket pocket. My recommendation is to not overload yourself with gear. This year I am going to put on my 28-70mm and call it good. I had even considered just going with my 50mm prime, but I’ve loaned it out to a friend …. Of course, whatever you bring will be your choice, and you’ll have to carry it. :-)
